Ubuntu no longer supports installation from Windows

It is difficult to popularize Linux systems. One reason is that the installation is not too convenient. Ubuntu wubi solves the problem that many common users want to try Linux, ubuntu can be installed directly in a common installation package in windows and can coexist harmoniously. However, wubi will disappear on Ubuntu 13.04, which will be released at the end of this month.

Steve langasek, a canonical developer, explained that this is mainly because wubi has too many problems. For example, it cannot detect other ISO system images (12.04.02/13.04 amd64) and create user accounts, it is not even compatible with Windows 8. The release time of ubuntu 13.04 was approaching, and it was too late to solve the problem. Therefore, I decided to pay the base and cancel it directly.

He said: "The (UBUNTU) Foundation team believes that wubi cannot reach a stable release status in version 13.04, so I propose to remove wubi from version 13.04, starting from the upcoming beta version. This allows testers to save time, instead of wasting time on issues that are not fixed by developers at all, or giving users a 13.04 error that does not comply with Ubuntu quality standards ."

In addition, it seems that canonical is not going to welcome back to wubi in future versions. Steve langasek welcomes anyone interested in maintaining wubi.

In fact, we had a similar discussion a year ago, but wubi eventually survived. In May last October, developers even planned to improve wubi so that it could be used in Ubuntu 13.04.
