Ubuntu 10.10 uses the GNOME 2.32 desktop environment and Linux Kernel 2.6.35. The latest stable version is also used for applications, including OpenOffice 3.2 office software, Firefox 3.6 browser, Transmission 2 download tool, Pidgin 2.7 instant messaging software, and Thunderbird 3.1 mail client.
