Method 1: Use the update Manager

Enter at the terminal:
Update-manager-devel-release

Click upgrade. If the upgrade fails, click "check:" in the update manager and then click upgrade again.

Method 2: Pure commands

First upgrade the system (mainly the system kernel ):
Sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade
Restart your computer.
Restart your computer and run the following command:
Sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
Then, you can easily edit/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.
Change Prompt = lts to Prompt = normal
Save and close

Sudo do-release-upgrade-d

Go to Ubuntu official website to download Ubuntu images, such as Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade Ubuntu 10. 04. So download the ubuntu-10.04.1-alternate-i386.iso

This is the most important part of this upgrade: It must be alternate !! Do not download it to another iso. Download it. I put it in the root directory of my user folder:/home/linuxidc/ubuntu-10.04.1-alternate-i386.iso

Sudo mount-t iso9660-o loop ~ /Ubuntu-10.04.1-alternate-i386.iso/media/cdrom0

Sudo gksu "sh/cdrom/cdromupgrade"

Go to Ubuntu official website to download Ubuntu images, such as Ubuntu 9.10 upgrade Ubuntu 10. 04. So download the ubuntu-10.04.1-alternate-i386.iso
