Impression-ism was a 19th-century art movement that began as a loose association of Paris-based artists exhibiting their art publicly in the 1860 s. the name of the movement is derived from the title of a Claude Monet work, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant ), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satiric review published in Le Charivari.

Characteristics of Impressionist painting include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, the operation sion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles.

I am pleased to announce the"Unity Impression"GTK2 theme is now available for Ubuntu 11.04. Falling somewhere between Ambiance and Radiance, Impression offers enhancements and improvements in the following areas.

Scroll-bars

The scroll-bars remain as they were (always visible ). with this theme I suggest disabling the new "overlay scroll-bars" feature. although a matter of personal preference, I found the application of this design element inconsistent and problematic. to uninstall search for "overlay-scrollbar" in synaptic or run the following command in terminal ("sudo apt-get remove overlay-scrollbar liboverlay-scrollbar-0.1-0 ″). if you change your mind, re-install this package to enable.

Inkscape is a good application to showcase the various controls and widgets.

Breadcrumbs

The updated breadcrumbs design supports a "button" appearance which blends well with the rest of the theme. the selected button is accented with an orange outline internal ss the top and displays a bold font. all previous drag and drop functions work as before.

Window Controls

The "Open File" dialog box is a good example of the re-designed window controls at work. impression leverages the design of Ambiance which uses a recessed trough to hold a more muted set of control buttons.

Bugs

When a window is maximized, the window controls are lost to a pre-defined default. This is a known bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/740232 ).

Installation

Installation is a snap. download the "tar" file to a local folder and run the Appearance Preferences diences, Select the theme tab, and press the install button. from the Open File Dialog box select UnityImpression.tar.gz from the download folder. upon completion select the UnityImpression theme.
