The development of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) has reached a very important milestone today, and its functions are frozen. The Ubuntu development cycle is usually 6 months, and this version is no exception. There is no delay in the development process and there is no major crisis. This specific stage is achieved in the development cycle, not only in the Ubuntu Linux system. In fact, it is a milestone that many other projects will reach. GNOME is one of them.

This milestone has nothing to do with dramatic changes. It just means that developers will not add new features and focus more on bug fixes. However, this does not mean that new features cannot be added, exceptions may occur. Therefore, at least wait for the next milestone called "last feature-specific freeze" to determine all functions.

Canonical said that if developers still have features to be added, they can continue uploading today and they will continue testing. The development of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will not work out a stable version, it is better than a version full of bugs. At present, the development of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has begun to focus on error fixing and performance polishing. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is scheduled to be officially released on July 15, April 21 this year.

The Canonical table shows that Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has received a large number of new features that cover most of these features. Canonical intends to replace the Ubuntu Software Center with GNOME and add support for ZFS, therefore, before the official release, Canonical has a lot to do.
