In addition to the Linux kernel 2.6.24, X.org 7.3, PulseAudio, PolicyKit, and Firefox 3 Beta 2 features we mentioned earlier, Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 also introduced several new applications. These new applications are installed on Ubuntu by default.
New programs added in Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 include:
Transmission: a fast and lightweight BitTorrent download software that replaces the default Gnome BitTorrent downloader In Ubuntu.
Vinagre: A New VNC client that replaces xvnc4viewer In Ubuntu.
Brasero: CD and DVD burning software on the GTK + interface, replacing the Serpentine audio CD burning tool in Ubuntu.
World Clock Applet: it is more powerful than the default Clock Panel Applet in GNOME, and can display time and weather in multiple locations.
Ufw (Uncomplicated Firewall): A new Firewall program.
At the same time, Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 uses the latest version of Nautilus 2.21.6, which uses GVFS as the backend. It also improves GNOME System Monitor, and the graphic display of the "Resources" label is smoother.
Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 4 is still available in virtualization. KVM is officially maintained and libvirt and virt-manager are ready for Ubuntu.
