Ubuntu8.04 solution without sound problems

I installed Ubuntu8.04 on my colleague last week, but I didn't have a sound. I could only use it for adjustment, but I never had a sound. I found many ways online to solve the problem. Click volume control today, open "edit"-"Preferences", select surround in it, and try again, the sound is actually coming out. I don't know what's going on? You can see a solution on the Internet. Intel is the sound card model listed in the previous step. This method solves the problem in that post, and it won't work if it can be used on a colleague's machine.
