UbuntuOne abandons the use of CouchDB

On April 9, 21st day of this month, the Ubuntu Development Team issued a statement entitled "EOLforcouchdbanddesktopcouch" in the Ubuntu mailing list, announcing the termination of the use of CouchDB and zootopcouch. In the past three years, they have been working with the company where CouchDB is located to use CouchDB to solve its scalability problems. However, due to their special needs, CouchDB cannot be used to solve some special problems.

In the past three years, they have been working with the company where CouchDB is located to use CouchDB to solve its scalability problems. However, because of their own special needs, CouchDB cannot be used to solve some special problems, nor can CouchDB be well expanded under the planning of millions of users. Therefore, the Ubuntu One team decided to abandon the use of CouchDB.

The database related to user notes and playlist will continue to provide services, but direct external access will be disabled. Other data stored in CouchDB will be cleared.

The maintained topcouch will also be stopped for use, development and maintenance. They said in the article that if someone is willing to take over, they are willing to deliver the business. In the forthcoming version 12.04, the new installation package does not contain dependencies on CouchDB or shorttopcouch.

Many people suspect that this means CouchDB's failure and regard it as a signal that CouchDB is about to end. CouchDB official Twitter only provides the following response:

Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.
