Understanding Task Manager

Source: Internet

The Task Manager user interface provides files, options, views, windows, shutdown, and help items, for example, in the "shutdown" menu, you can perform operations such as standby, sleep, shutdown, restart, logout, and switchover, and applications under the "shutdown" menu.ProgramProcess, performance, networking, user, and so on. The bottom of the window is the status bar, you can view the process count, CPU usage rate, and memory size of the current system. By default, the system automatically updates the data every two seconds, you can click "View> Update speed" to reset the settings.

1. Applications

All currently running applications are displayed, but only the applications that have opened the window are displayed, apps that minimize QQ and MSN Messenger to the system tray area will not be displayed.

You can click the "End Task" button here to close an application. If you want to end multiple tasks at the same time, press and hold the ctrl key to check. Click the "new task" button, you can directly open the corresponding program, folder, document, or Internet resource. If you do not know the program name, you can click "Browse" to search, in fact, this "new task" function looks like running commands in the Start Menu.

2. Process

All processes that are currently running, including applications and background services, can be found here for virus programs or Trojans that are hidden in the bottom layer of the system, the premise is that you need to know its name. Find the name of the process to be terminated, and then run the "Terminate process" command in the right-click menu to forcibly terminate the process. However, in this way, unsaved data is lost, in addition, if system services are terminated, some functions of the system may not work properly.

In Windows, the task manager can only display the processes currently in progress in the system, while proces *** plorer can display the relationship between processes in a tree-like manner, which of the following processes is started by a process? The files or folders called by a process can also be displayed. If a process is a Windows service, you can view all the services registered by the process. You can download them from www.sysinternals.com.

3. Performance

From the task manager, we can see the dynamic concept of computer performance, such as CPU and memory usage.

CPU usage: a chart showing the percentage of processor working time. This counter is the main indicator of processor activity. You can view this chart to know the current processing time.

CPU usage record: displays the chart of CPU usage changes over time. The sampling condition shown in the chart depends on the "update speed" value selected in the "View" menu, "high" indicates 2 times per second, "normal" indicates 1 time every two seconds, "low" indicates 1 time every four seconds, and "pause" indicates that automatic updates are not performed.

PF usage: the number of page files being used by the system.

Page file usage record: displays the chart showing the changes of the page file volume over time. The sampling condition displayed in the chart depends on the value set for "update speed" in the "View" menu.

Total number: displays the total number of running handles, threads, and processes on the computer.

Execution memory: Memory allocated to programs and operating systems. Due to the existence of virtual memory, the "peak" value can exceed the maximum physical memory, the "Total" value is the same as the value displayed in the "page file usage record" chart.

Physical memory: The total physical memory installed on the computer, also known as Ram. "available" indicates the available memory capacity, "system cache" displays the physical memory of the page currently used to map open files.

Kernel memory: the memory used by the operating system kernel and device drivers. The "page" refers to the memory that can be copied to the page file to release the physical memory; "Non-Paging" is the memory stored in the physical memory and will not be copied to the page file.

4. Networking

The network traffic indicators of the Local Computer are displayed. When multiple network connections are used, we can compare the traffic of each connection here, this option is displayed only after the NIC is installed.

5. User

The number of users currently logged on and connected to the local machine, the user ID (the digital ID that identifies the session on the computer), the active status (running, disconnected), and the client name are displayed, you can click "logout" to log on again, or use the "Disconnect" button to connect to the local machine. If you are a LAN user, you can send messages to other users.

Iii. Special Tasks of task manager

In fact, in addition to terminating the task, killing the process, and viewing the performance, the task manager can complete many more advanced special tasks. Next, we will introduce the extended application of the task manager through several instances:

Minimize multiple windows at the same time

Switch to the "application" tab, press Ctrl and select the application projects that need to be minimized at the same time, click any of these projects, and select the "minimize" command from the right-click menu, you can also perform operations such as stack, horizontal tile, and vertical tile.

Reduce the resource usage of a software

When running a software, the software occupies a large amount of system resources, and you will see that the hard drive lights are constantly flashing and the noise is soaring, whether it is browsing the Web page or running other applications, the system is stuck.

Open the "Task Manager> process" window, select the process name of the software, and select the "set priority" command from the right-click menu, you can select real-time, high, higher than standard, standard, lower than standard, and low. Please set it based on the actual situation. For example, setting it to "lower than standard" can reduce the priority of the process, so that Windows can allocate more resources to other processes.
