In the Windows operating system, Device Manager is a tool for managing computer hardware devices, and we can use Device Manager to view the hardware devices installed on the computer, set device properties, install or update drivers, deactivate or uninstall devices, which can be said to be very powerful.

Right-click My Computer on the desktop, open the Properties window, switch to the Hardware Options page, and click the Device Manager button in it to enter the window (Figure 1), which shows all the hardware devices installed on the local computer, such as optical storage devices, CPUs, hard disks, displays, video cards, network adapters, Modems, and so on. Here, the author introduces some of the problem symbols in the Device Manager to my friends.

1. The Red Fork,

The hardware devices in the "IEEE 1394 bus Master" and "PCMCIA Cards" show a red fork in the previous Diagram window, which means that the device has been deactivated, in fact because the author's laptop does not often use 1394 devices and PCMCIA cards. These devices are disabled from the considerations of saving system resources and increasing startup speed.

Workaround: Right-click on the device and select "Enable" from the shortcut menu.

2. Yellow question mark or exclamation number

If you see a yellow question mark or exclamation point in front of a device (Figure 2), the former indicates that the hardware was not recognized by the operating system, which means that the hardware does not have a driver installed or the driver is not installed correctly.

Solution: First, we can right-click on the hardware device, select the "Uninstall" command, and then reboot the system, if it is the Windows XP operating system, most of the time will automatically identify the hardware and automatically install the driver. However, in some cases you may need to insert a driver disk, follow the prompts.
