I upgraded XUbuntu from 7.10 to 8.04 on my desktop yesterday. I don't want to change it on my laptop. The upgrade was smooth. This is the first time I used the upgrade feature of XUbuntu, which was previously reinstalled. After the upgrade: 1. the font support is better than before, and the font is clearer than before. 2. Many software have been upgraded to newer versions. I did not deliberately explore the comparison, But I encountered some problems in daily use: Amule adopts the SVN version and supports Upnp; Gaim is upgraded to 2.4
I upgraded XUbuntu from 7.10 to 8.04 on my desktop yesterday. I don't want to change it on my laptop.
The upgrade was smooth. This is the first time I used the upgrade feature of XUbuntu, which was previously reinstalled.
After Upgrade:
1. The font support is better than before, and the font is clearer than before.
2. Many software have been upgraded to newer versions. I did not deliberately explore the comparison, but encountered the following in daily use:
Amule adopts the SVN version and supports Upnp. Gaim is upgraded to 2.4.1 with slightly changed UI. Firefox 3 is upgraded to Beta 5, before which it is Beta 4. sympy is upgraded to the 5.8 series, this is good. 7.10 is a relatively low version, and many commands in the official documentation cannot be used; Brasero must have been upgraded because of different interfaces and md5 verification by default; openJDK Java Web Start is added to the network sub-menu of the menu, and Transmission is added to the network sub-menu of the menu, which is a fast and simple BT client, I don't know how it works. The Wireshark that runs as root in the network sub-menu of the menu is removed. If this is not good, su will be performed on the command line in the future.
3. Smooth transition of several common services, including Apache, OpenSSH, and OpenVPN.
4. VirtualBox has a problem and does not respond to the keyboard. Two solutions are available:
Solution 1: remove the automatic capture keyboard option in VirtualBox;
Solution 2: Install scim-bridge-client-qt and scim-bridge-client-qt;
I am using the next solution. At the same time, I changed VirtualBox to VirtualBox OSE.
