The A to-Z Guide to getting Website traffic
Original Author: Shawn Campbell

In September 1999, Brett Tabke wrote an article in the Webmaster World Forum, "26 steps to 15000 a day." Now that there are many differences, it is time to consider a new "26-step Plan" dedicated to the 2006-year webmaster. Some of the old tricks still apply (for example, writing new content every day), but some are no longer applicable (submitting to a search engine is not the necessary step), we're going to tell you what to do and what not to do this time. You may have learned that it is not so easy to bring in traffic – hard work, choice, physical activity. So if you're ready, roll up your sleeves and follow this simple 26 step, and within a year you'll get enough traffic to keep you busy.

A) keyword Research
Before doing anything, use the keyword tool to do an extensive survey to see which keywords/words apply to your site. What keyword is your direct competitor using? Are there some key words with market potential that you haven't found yet? Maybe you can carve out another new situation from it?

B) domain name
If you want your company name to be branded, choose a domain name that accurately reflects it. If your company is called Kawunga, register www.kawunga.com, and if it is unfortunately registered, use www.kawungawidgets.com. Do not use a cross bar (-), try not to more than two two words of the combination.

C) Avoid sandbox testing
After you have identified the keywords and the company name, buy your domain name as soon as possible. As soon as possible to set up the site, put on a simple page to tell others who you are, what to do, as well as the details of the site will be immediately out and so on. Make sure it is crawled by Google and Yahoo!. (Can be submitted or connected to the station from another site)

D) Creating content
Make 30 pages of authentic original content for your site. This makes spiders desirable, and it gives you the opportunity to learn more about keywords from search engine results.

E) Site Design
Adhere to the "keep simple" approach. Call an external CSS file, clear the Java Script code on the page, using an external file to invoke them, do not use the framework to use the image of the way to use flash, do not make the whole station flash. Do not make the site flashy, so that viewers feel cluttered. Keep it neat and simple. Make it easy for visitors to find what they need without looking around.

F) Page Size
The smaller the KB your pages are, the better – especially the home page. Optimize those pictures to make the page load faster. Most people and businesses in the west are fast on the Internet, but they may not be in other countries or mobile phones. If your site is slow to load, it may have lost visitors before it was accessed.

G) Availability
Make sure your site follows some usability rules. Remember, people spend more time on other sites, so don't challenge design habits. Do not use PDF files for online reading. Use a different color for the access connection, with a good size heading. Check out a little more about usability, and they'll help you a lot.

H) Site Optimization
Use the keyword you selected in the title (most important), and then try to include the same size title and text. Make sure your page/content is about these keywords. If you want to sell gadgets, write about gadgets. Don't just repeat the word "gadget" in words.

I) through-station connection
A connecting connection is one that is identical on every page. They help new visitors not to get lost. Sometimes they appear on the left side of the page, sometimes at the top with small chunks. Sometimes they will also be at the bottom of the page. Make sure that you have an old-style connection to each page. I usually put a small piece at the top of the page and put a text on the bottom. See what's the best way for you to use it.

J) Header
Use bold headers. People surf the internet often just to scan not to read carefully. So basically, all they can see is the header. If your header is not attractive enough, people may not stay on the content for long. If you can, use the right amount of keywords.

K) Site Map
Create a site map that contains all the page connections in the station. Keep updating. It helps spiders get into each page. Place a text connection to the site map on the main page.

L) content
Add a new page every 2-3 days, 200~500 word. Content to be original, do not copy others. The more original and useful the content, the more people will read it, connect to it, and most importantly-come back later.

M) optimized to have degrees
Stay away from the technology of excessive optimization. Excessive optimization refers to unscrupulous ways to improve rankings, using search engines do not identify with the way, such as keyword stacking, door pages, invisible text, what. For long-term consideration, the optimization should have degrees. Cheating optimized sites usually seek short-term results, such as pornography, gambling and the black market. (Look at the junk mail you've received.) These cheating sites are usually just enough to have an active cycle.

N) Competitive Analysis
Who is competing with you for the market? To Yahoo use "link:" Check. Like this: link:http://www.yourdomain.com learn from your competitors and get connections to those sites. Better to replace them!

O) Submission
Submit to 5 groups of directories:

1,dmoz.org and Yahoo (local, such as Yahoo.co.uk, yahoo.ca, etc., if possible)
2, find your industry catalogue and do not join them. If you have to pay, it depends on whether the price is reasonable.
3, the local directory of the country or region in which it is located.
4, any other suitable directory.
5, if you are targeting the local market, be sure to add the Yellow Pages. (Because search engines use these lists to run local searches.) )

P) Blog
Create a blog about your industry and write a new article at least once a week. Allow visitors to post comments, or even have them write articles on them themselves. This can create more content and make people remember to come back and see what's new.

Q) External connections
Just submit your site to the right site, and ask them to contact you and tell them that it will benefit their visitors. But don't spend too much time here, if you have good original content, they will find you and connect to you. Remember, if "content is king", then "Connect is after". Stay away from reciprocal connections, connections to farms, ghost connections, and any other unnatural connections. They don't necessarily hurt you, but Google tracks all of this: when you get a connection, how long you get a connection, who connects to your site now, where you live, what you eat for breakfast, and so on. (a bit of a joke, but it's like that)

R) Statistics
Make sure your server has a good statistical program and take advantage of it. If you can't use a good one, pay as much as you can. If you don't know your visitors ' information, like who is visiting, where you come from, how often you visit, and so on, you'll be confused about how to improve your site because you don't have these basic tools.

S) Pay-per-click (PPC)
Sign up for Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing. Spend some money on advertising to attract people to your site, or you can use it to create a brand. PPC will bring a fixed flow of traffic to your site and, of course, will give your potential customers more insight into the opportunities. You don't have to do No.1 or even No.5 ... Just make sure your ads are on the first page of your search results below your keywords, and pay attention to the cost of advertising.

T) look forward
Keep your focus on the latest developments in your market direction. If a new product will come out in the next season, write it now on the website. Preemptive, search engines and connections will reward you.

U) article
Write an article every week and publish it in as many online publications as possible. (attached, even back to your site) put these articles on your own website. This will not only create a lot of connections to your site, it will also motivate people to click on your site, and most importantly, you will be an expert in the eyes of your visitors. They may start searching your name to find your site.

V) to study your traffic
In 30-90 days you will have enough statistical data on the site to do the analysis. Use the following questions to go through the data:

-Where do your visitors come from?
-What search engines do they use?
-What words and phrases do they inquire about?
-which pages on your site are accessed the most?
-What are the entry pages on your site?
-Exit page?
-How does the visitor browse your site according to the path?

Refine the results and streamline your site:

-Use the most popular pages to encourage visitors to come and create value for you.
-Adjust the browse path that you think is the most appropriate.
-figure out why they exited from those exit pages.

Then, depending on the keyword used by the visitor to visit, fine-tune your keyword settings. If your target word is "green widgets" and your visitor finds you by searching for "green leather widgets," You should start creating a "leather widgets" content.

W) Confirm your Submission
3-4 months later, make sure you are not included in the catalogue, such as dmoz.org and so on. If not, submit it again, or better yet, politely write an email to the editor asking why. Finally, find a new catalogue that is worth submitting, and don't let go.

X) RSS Feeds
RSS (Real Simple Syndication or rich Site Summary) is becoming a powerful tool for Internet marketers. You can simply and quickly add new content to the site. The feeds are often updated so you can talk to your visitors (and search engines) what they need – fresh content! You can use RSS to promote any new content, such as new pages, articles, blogs, press releases, and so on.

Y) Press Release
A press release is a written exchange of information that you submit to a media organization (newspaper, Radio, television, magazine) and is usually used to post newsworthy announcements. You can create any new articles, company information, product information newsletters. If it is attractive or original enough, the media staff will include it and write a story. Sometimes, your website address is published in the New York Times, and you don't know it yet.

Z) Keep fresh content
Remember to write a new page every 2-3 days. I'm simply saying this, but it's probably the most important piece of the whole article. Keep on writing! Without fresh content, your site will slowly fall down in search engines. To keep the first, your site must have the fastest update in your field, the freshest and most appealing original content.

Following the 26 simple steps above, I'm sure your site will be a success within a year. You will get the huge flow of the industry, see your career booming!
So start writing and write yourself first!
