According to foreign media reports, IBM and Yahoo recently upgraded the enterprise search product jointly developed by both parties. The competitor of this free product is Google's Mini device.
IBM and Yahoo will upgrade the IBM OmniFind Yahoo edition on Monday. After the upgrade, a more customizable search interface will be provided so that enterprises can adjust their appearances and feelings to adapt to their own brand and website layout.
Brown, content discovery and search project director at IBM, said that the OmniFind enterprise search application was released in December. As a server-side application, it has now improved metadata support, this improves the Index directory capability and search relevance. OmniFind Yahoo can now index 0.5 million documents and support more than 200 file types, such as Adobe System PDF files, Microsoft Word files, and Excel files.
Competitor Google Mini's search performance is: the 50 thousand document version starts at $1995, and the 0.3 million document version is priced at $8995. However, Mini is a hardware device preinstalled with search software, while IBM's OmniFind does not.
IBM OmniFind Yahoo is an entry-level product in the IBM enterprise search series. IBM Enterprise Search also includes OmniFind Enterprise Edition, which is more accurate and charged.
