I have been studying Linux recently. considering that I may not be running around with my laptop in the future, I hope I can carry a Ubuntu system with me. I can't always install a Linux system on someone else's computer. I just recently started a Sandisk 16G class 10 TF card, and added a PNY mobile phone baby card reader. I simply tested the file copy and the write speed was about 10 MB/s, the read speed is about 20 MB/s. This speed is much weaker than that of Solid State Disks, but it is barely used as a system disk, so it took me one afternoon to install the system in a simple way, by the way, the installation process is recorded for reference by those who need it, so that you can check it back when your memory is poor in the future.
I. use tool 1) use software: Windows7 system, VirtualBox software (VirtualBox is open-source free software) 2) need a TF card (I have not tested a USB flash drive, it should also be OK ). We recommend that you partition the TF card based on your needs before installation. For more information, see section 4. 3) for Ubuntu to install the CD image file (. iso file), I am using the 13.04, 32-bit system version. 2. during the installation process, open the VirtualBox software and create a new one. The setup wizard shown in the figure is displayed. "Name" doesn't matter. you 'd better select Linux and Ubuntu respectively for "type and version", although I don't know what the specific function is. The memory size of a virtual machine does not matter. I just temporarily use a virtual machine to install the system and create a virtual hard disk. it seems that I can do it without creating a virtual disk. I have not tested it. The option "virtual hard disk file type" does not matter, and you can proceed directly. This virtual hard disk is not used at all, so you just need to allocate it dynamically. The size of the virtual hard disk can be 8 GB, and the installation program must be at least 5 GB. As shown in figure, click settings and select the ISO image file for the CD installation to set the USB device connected to the VM, that is, the USB device corresponding to my TF card. After setting, click OK to start. After a while, you can see the startup screen of the ubuntu installation software. Then such information may appear. I don't know what it is talking about, don't worry about it, and wait until I finally get there. I select a language. although I often read English documents, after all, I still get used to reading Chinese. It doesn't matter if you select "install this third-party software. Because it is installed on the TF card, you should select "other options" to manually partition. Select the TF card for the device that installs the boot Guide (depending on the size), and double-click the selected project in the figure, that is, the idle partition settings of/dev/sdb are mounted to the "/", that is, the root directory, indicating that the ubuntu system will be installed in this partition. Flash media is not suitable for frequent reads and writes. In addition, the current computer memory is relatively large. I don't think we should set the SWAP partition, so no SWAP partition is set here. Click OK. Click "Install Now" and a prompt may pop up. All said no SWAP partition, ignore it. Click continue. I don't need to introduce it here. choose one based on your own situation. Then there is a long wait. It is relatively slow to install on a virtual machine. the advantage is that you do not need to worry about the operating system you are currently using. if you have any problems, you can check the information online at any time. In addition, the VirtualBox virtual machine cannot start from this TF card during the test. the reason for the limited level is unclear (the virtual machine does not recognize the usb bios ?). After installation, you can start the test on the TF card. III. Other settings because the system is installed on the TF card, and frequent write-offs have an impact on the life of the TF card, which is similar to SSD. Therefore, it is recommended that temporary files with frequent read/write operations be stored in the memory. Start your computer (not a virtual machine this time) from the TF card, open the terminal, enter sudo gedit/etc/fstab, and add the following three lines of code to the File: tmpfs/tmp tmpfs ULTS ults, noatime, nodiratime, mode = 1777, nosuid, size = 256 M 0 0
Tmpfs/var/tmp tmpfs ULTS ults, noatime, mode = 1777, size = 32 M 0 0
Tmpfs/var/log tmpfs ULTS ults, noatime, mode = 1777, size = 32 M 0 0 4. run the command line to partition the TF card in window 7, and press the input command to clear all the data on the TF card, including the file system (back up the data before doing this) close the command line, open the Start menu, and enter disk management to open the program "create and format hard disk partitions. Note that black indicates no allocation. Right-click the volume and choose Settings next to it. The result is as follows:
