Use Delete expired with caution to automatically clean up archives -- Differences Between obsolete and expired

Source: Internet

The obsolete is related to the RMAN retention policy. When a backup or copy is discarded Based on the storage policy, the system marks the backup or copy as obeolete.
For example, if the recovery window is set to 7 days, all backups earlier than 7 days will be marked as obsolete. These backups are considered to have expired.

Expired uses crosscheck to verify the backup. When the backup or copy is stored in the RMAN knowledge base but not physically stored in the backup media, it is marked as expired. After the backup set is deleted at the operating system layer, run crosscheck. The backups recorded in the RMAN knowledge base are marked as expired after the operating system is deleted.
