BKJIA exclusive Article] BKJIA introduced the player optimization and system performance improvement of the Microsoft group policy to you in the previous article. You still need to learn more at a deeper level. BKJIA describes how to use Microsoft group policies to easily deploy applications in batches.

Today we need to install a wide range of applications on the client computer, the most common is Office, of course, there are some companies in the ERP client program, anti-virus software, View software, Adobe Reader and so on. However, if so many applications need to be installed, if the system administrator needs to install each software installation project in front of each client computer, it will certainly be a thankless job. What should we do if we have many more valuable work goals waiting for you to complete? Very easy! As long as you use Microsoft's group policy feature in the Windows domain, you can solve most of the batch application deployment requirements.

Preparation Phase

Before using group policies to install applications in batches, you must store the prepared installer files in the folder of any server in the domain. It is not recommended to place the domain controller here, because the batch client Copies files through the network and seriously affects the performance of the domain controller, affecting the user login response time. Copy the files to be deployed to the shared folder and right-click share to continue. Then, on the "file sharing" page, we can add the users or groups that want to access the connection to the List, and grant the client users the permission to read the shared folder, therefore, the permission level for Everyone is "Reader". After completing the settings, click "share.

Next, we can classify the computers on the target client in a centralized manner. How can we classify them? Very easy! After the "Active Directory user and computer" interface is enabled in "Administrative Tools, 1. Right-click and choose "New"> "organization unit" to continue.

Figure 1 add organization units in the domain

On the "add object-organizational unit" Page, enter a name indicating the organizational unit in both Chinese and English), and check the "prevent accidental deletion of containers" setting, click "OK" to complete the add operation. After the organization unit is created, we can start to find out all the client computers to deploy the application and drag them to the container. However, when we perform the drag operation, a warning will appear. This information mainly tells us to drag objects in the domain service, which may cause the Group Policy settings that were originally applied to become invalid, click "yes" to continue.

Configuration phase

After completing the above preparations, we will start to configure the Group Policy for software distribution. Enable "Group Policy Management" from the drop-down menu of "Administrative Tools" to continue. Next, go to the "Group Policy object" project under the domain node on the "Group Policy Management" interface, and right-click the "new" button to continue. Next, the "Create GPO" page will be opened. Set a name in both Chinese and English for this group policy object.) Click "OK" to add the policy object. After adding a group policy object, as shown in figure 2, right-click the Group Policy object item and choose Edit to continue.

The "Group Policy Management Editor" in Figure 3 is turned on. expand to the "Computer Configuration"> "software Settings"> "software installation" project node in sequence, right-click and choose "New"> "data packet" to continue.

The "source file" page is opened, as shown in Figure 4. Browse the installation folder we shared earlier from the network neighbors. Here, you can select a batch of applications to be delivered and installed at a time. After the selection, click "open. The "deploy software" page is displayed. Select "allocated" and click "OK. This is the list of newly added applications, and you need to move the computers that are deployed using software installation to this organization. Then close the "Group Policy Management Editor" window.

Return to the "Group Policy Management" interface, expand to the specified organizational unit under the domain node, and then, as shown in step 5, right-click the organizational unit and choose "link existing GPO" to continue.

The "select GPO" page will be opened, where you can see the Group Policy object project we created earlier, select and click the "OK" button. After setting, you can view the list of all currently allocated applications on the Group Policy object created by the organization unit.

Test phase

After setting the Group Policy object and connecting to the application, we can find a computer in the organizational unit for testing. After the command prompt character interface is opened, enter the gpupdate/force command parameter to forcibly update the Group Policy content. As we can see below, because the Group Policy object we set is applied on the computer object, the system will prompt whether we want to restart the computer for the latest group policy to take effect.

After the client is started, you can see the prompt of installing software on the client logon interface. If you do not see it, you must check the above steps to see if you have any negligence.

Can I assign or delete unnecessary software in the future? Yes, as long as these computers are still in the organizational unit of the group policy applied to them, you can go back to the "Group Policy Management Editor" and delete the software package you want to delete. In this way, the applications that have been installed on the client computer will be automatically deleted after the restart.
