Original: Windows uses SSH to manage Ubuntu
Author: MilkCu
Abstract: SSH is a protocol used to provide security for remote login sessions and other network services. SSH includes two parts: client and server, this article mainly explains how to configure and manage Ubuntu in Windows using the SSH protocol.
SSH protocol Introduction
SSH, short for Secure Shell, is a security protocol created on the application layer and transport layer, providing a Secure transmission and use environment for the computer shell. SSH is a protocol designed for security of remote logon sessions and other network services. Another advantage is that the data transmitted by SSH can be compressed to speed up transmission.
SSH was originally restricted by copyrights and encryption algorithms. Many people now switch to open-source free OpenSSH.
Build an SSH server in Ubuntu
SSH can be divided into opeenssh-client and openssh-server.
Openssh-client has been installed in Ubuntu by default and can be used to log on to other machines.
To enable the SSH service on the local machine, install openssh-server. Of course, the openssh-client may be re-installed due to version issues.
Next we will record the process of installing openssh-server under Ubunt 12.04.
(1) Try to install the openssh-server software package:
sudo apt-get install openssh-server
However, there are two error messages to be resolved.
(2) install the specified version of openssh-client
The error message is as follows:
The following packages have unmet dependencies: openssh-server : Depends: openssh-client (= 1:5.9p1-5ubuntu1) but 1:5.9p1-5ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
This error indicates that the openssh-server dependency package openssh-client version to be installed does not meet the requirements.
The solution is to first install the specified version of openssh-client.
sudo apt-get install openssh-client=1:5.9p1-5ubuntu1.1
(3) Install ssh-import-id
The following message is displayed, indicating that the software is not installed.
Recommends: ssh-import-id but it is not going to be installed
Run the following command to install the SDK:
sudo apt-get install ssh-import-id
(4) test whether the installation is successful
ps -e | grep ssh
If you see sshd, it indicates that openssh-server has been started.
(5) service configuration
The ssh-server configuration file is located in/etc/ssh/sshd_config. The SSH service port can be defined here. The default port is 22.
Stop Service
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh stop
Start the service
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
Install the SSH client in Windows
We can use the SSH client to manage Linux on Windows. We recommend two SSH clients to download them by clicking or using the hyperlink below.
