I spoke about using REMOTESERVER yesterday. although it is very convenient to use, it can only be used between MSSQL. what should I do if I want to connect SQL7 with SQL6.5? Or what should I do if I use SQL7 to connect to ORACLE or SYSBASE? This requires the ingress server. Today, let's talk about how to use consumer Server between SQL7 and the ClientN SQL Server on the source Server.

What should I do if I want to connect SQL7 to SQL 6.5? Or use SQL7 to connect with ORACLE or SYSBASE.
What should I do? This requires the linked server.
Let's talk about how to use the linked server between sql7.
1. add the target server connection to the Client Network Utility of the source server.
2. open enterprise manger and expand the Security of the source server.
Right-click and choose new linked server from the shortcut menu.
3. in the linked server properties window, enter the name of the target SERVER in the linked server box (the name of the Server in the client network utility), and select SQL SERVER in the SERVER section, select RPC and rpc out in SERVER OPTIONS
4. switch to Security according to the actual settings.
(I usually select "THEY WILL BE MAPPED TO", and then enter the account and password)
5. Click OK to complete the settings.
It must be noted that the use of remote server is a little different from that of remote server.
CATALOG (DBO) is omitted, but it cannot be omitted when using the linked server. at that time, I tried to delay a lot of time due to this problem.
The test was successful between WIN98 SQL7 DESKTOP and NT4 SP5 SQL7.
