Backup is the basis for disaster tolerance. to prevent data loss caused by system operation errors or system faults, the process of copying all or part of data sets from the application host's hard disk or array to other storage media. Backup is the basis for disaster tolerance. to prevent data loss caused by system operation errors or system faults, the process of copying all or part of data sets from the application host's hard disk or array to other storage media. Traditional data backup uses built-in or external tape drives for cold backup. However, this method can only prevent human faults such as Operation errors, and it takes a long time to recover. With the continuous development of technology and the increase of data volume, many enterprises begin to adopt network backup. Network Backup is generally achieved through professional data storage management software combined with the corresponding hardware and storage devices.

Common backup methods include:

Regular tape backup data.

Remote tape library and Optical Disk Library backup. Transfers data to the remote backup center to create a complete backup tape or CD.

Remote Key Data + tape backup. Using tape backup data, the production machine sends key data to the backup machine in real time.

Remote Database backup. A copy of the primary database is created on a backup machine that is separated from the production machine where the primary database is located.

Network Data image. This method monitors and tracks the database data of the production system and the updates of important target files to be tracked, and transfers the update logs to the backup system through the network in real time, the backup system updates the disk according to the log.

Remote Image disk. The image disk is extended to a location far away from the production machine through the express connect line and disk control technology. The image disk data is exactly the same as the data on the primary disk. the update method is synchronous or asynchronous.

Data Backup must take into account data recovery issues, including the use of dual-machine hot backup, disk images or fault tolerance, backup tape remote storage, critical component redundancy, and other disaster prevention measures. These measures can recover the system after the system fails. However, these measures can only deal with single point of failure (SPOF) on computers. they are helpless for regional and devastating disasters and do not have the ability to recover from disasters.

Using ghost, the backup and restoration time is less than the time for installing a Linux system. generally, we can back up important data. the backup object can be a partition or the entire disk, you can not only back up the Linux operating system, but also back up Windows.

Lab environment: vmwarevm
Objective: to install DOS and LINUX, and then use ghost to back up and restore the Linux system
First, create a new Centos3 operating system in the VM:

Then, we mount the ISO image and use the Deep-Mountain leaf toolbox, which contains the DOS operating system:

Start a VM
Press and hold the Esc key on the keyboard and select CD-ROM Drive to start from the Drive:

Select MS-DOS toolbox

Select DOS boot

Select f32 to partition it first

Press the PageDown button on the disk to select the FAT32 format. the capacity input is 4024 MB, which is used to install the DOS system and the remaining Linux systems.

We don't need to operate Boot2. press the Enter key.

Hard disk partition, select "yes"

Format all partitions.

Whether to copy the system file to the hard disk. select "no"

Restart the computer.
Start from the optical drive, enter the dostoolbox, and enter: sys c: use drive c as the system disk

Input: copy GHOST c: copy the content of the ghost file to drive c.

Restart your computer to see if you can access DOS

Yes, then
Double-click the optical drive chart in the lower right corner of the VM, mount the ISO image of Centos3, and then restart the computer:

Also choose to start from the optical drive
Go to the Linux installation page:

Here we skip the detection of CD media:

Click "Next ":

Because we are just doing an experiment, here we select "Custom" Custom installation:

Select Manual partitioning:

We can see that/dev/sda1 is the DOS operating system just created, and the remaining disk space is used to create a MB swap partition, and the rest is used as the root partition:

Partition completed:

Here, grub is selected by default to guide the Linux operating system. The "Win32" above is the DOS system just created:

Next, click "next", enter the Root password, and click "next" until the installation is complete. restart the computer to go to the following screen:

Now we start to use ghost to back up the linux system and select "win32 ":

Input: ghost for backup:

Select "To Image" here To make the partition into an Image:

The size of the entire disk is 8 GB:

Press enter to enter:

Here we can see that there are three Partitions. we want to back up the Linux partition, so select Linux, press enter and then press the TAB key to enter:

The top look in indicates where the Linux partition is backed up. Here C: 1.1 [] FAT drive indicates the DOS system, and select it. The following is a backup File name: linuxbak:

Select "Fast" for quick backup:

Then select "YES"
The entire backup process is followed:
