When ifupdown is used for automatic network settings, when ifup is running, the interface name can be "mapped" for another name. The name of the ing depends on the situation. Therefore, ifup can be set to activate a physical interface by using an appropriate logical interface in the preset logical interface set. Logical interface name ing generates the following situation: If the logical interface name is not given during ifup execution, the physical interface name will be used as the initial logical interface name. If the logical interface name conforms to the glob-pattern described by mapping, it is mapped to the new logical interface name. Ing of each field is performed in this order. If the final logical interface name is the tag of a logical interface defined in/etc/network/interfaces, the physical interface is activated as this logical interface. Otherwise, ifup prints "Ignoring unknown interface" and then exits. Ing Syntax: script ing glob-patternscript script-name [map script input] the script in the mapping section always uses the name of the physical interface as its parameter. The content in other "map" rows (excluding "map" itself) will be used as its standard input. The script prints the ing result as a standard output before exiting. For example, the following mapping section allows ifup to use the logical interface home to activate the interface eth0. Ing eth0script/usr/local/sbin/echo-home :#! /Bin/shecho home because the ing is completed by the script, it is possible to automatically select the logical interface-based on some selection tests.
