Use IIS to create your own email server

I have been surfing the internet for a long time. I have always envied other people's websites-pretty, functional, and can apply for a mailbox! However, in terms of sending and receiving emails, free lunch is getting fewer and fewer, and the loss and return of emails are also common and inconvenient. Is it feasible to build a private email server by yourself? Of course, it is easy to implement!

The tool we need is IIS, which is an integrated software developed by Microsoft to set up WEB, FTP, and SMTP servers, we can use it to easily handle "WEB servers" and "SMTP personal post offices. First, we will build a powerful WEB server.

  Step 1: Open IIS Manager

When "Internet Information Service" is installed, we can set it. Run "IIS manager" as follows:

Click Start, right-click my computer, and select Manage. In the Computer Management window, select Internet Information Service. Then, click it, select "network" and "default network", right-click "default network", and select "properties" to set its parameters.

  Step 2: Set "website" attributes

As shown in 1, we can set the default website in detail. Generally, the order in which users browse the Web page is as follows: Identify the IP address, find the port, and identify the "Host Header" name before entering the site home directory. Therefore, we need to pay attention to the settings of these parameters.

Figure 1

1. Configure the IP address, Host header, and port: You can specify the IP address of the WEB site. If there is no special need or there is no fixed IP address, select none, if multiple host headers are specified, You must select all unallocated IP addresses. Otherwise, visitors may not be able to access the IP addresses. For "Host Header", if IIS only has one site, you do not need to write the Host Header ID. Then configure the port. The default access port of the WEB site is TCP 80. Of course, we can also modify the site port, but visitors need to enter the port number when accessing our site, such as: http://techin.vicp.net: 8080.

2. Specify the site home directory. The main directory is used to store site files. The default directory is "% system % Inetpubwwwroot ". We can make modifications as needed to prevent hackers from easily removing our website.

We build a website by ourselves and the content comes from our own computer. Therefore, we select "content source when connecting to resources" as "directory on this computer ", click "Browse" and select a directory. In, you can also set access permissions for visitors, such as "script Resource Access", "read", and "write". Set them as needed. In addition, we can also set "application" and its execution permissions. For security reasons, Microsoft recommends using IIS In the NTFS disk format.

3. Set the default document: the document to be created first when the website administrator clicks, for example, index.htm#(or index.html, different websites have different requirements), "index. asp", and "default. asp ". Click the "document" tab to specify the default document name and order (Note: The default document is read from top to bottom ).

4. Set "Directory Security": Generally, you are granted Anonymous Access Permissions. In fact, by default, an anonymous user named "IUSR _ computer name" has been created in IIS. However, we can further set it.

"Anonymous Access and ID card verification control": This function configures the Web server to confirm the user's identity before authorized access to restricted content. To enable this function, click "edit ", you can enter the "authentication method" setting window. We can set it according to the actual situation. "IP address and domain name restriction" is a feature of the server version. The Professional Edition we use cannot be set.

Next we will set up the mail server. Because IIS provides an SMTP virtual server, you can use the local SMTP service to send emails. Let's take a look at the settings in figure 3.

Figure 3

"General": Set the SMTP virtual server. For users using dynamic IP addresses, the IP address is still set to "all unspecified ";

"Access": Set "Access Control", "Secure Communication", "Connection Control", and "relay restrictions;

"Mail": limits the mail size, session size, number of connected mails, and number of recipients of each mail. You can also "Dead mail" (undeliverable mail) save it to a directory;

"Pass": set parameters related to the "outbound" email, such as "first Retry Interval", "Second Retry Interval", and "third Retry Interval, you can also set "Outbound Security" and "outbound connection.

You can use the default value for other parameters. Okay. Set SMTP of foxmail to SMTP of my private server. Can you send me a mail? It's easy to understand. What are you waiting?
