Use install_updates to upgrade GAMIT/GLOBK
The GAMIT/GLOBK software is updated from time to time. There are two types of updates: update of shared table files (/tables) and update of programs.
If you use the GAMIT/GLOBK software to process the observed data before the release time of the software version used, you will not have any problems if you do not update it. However, if your data is not updated in time after the software release time, you may encounter some errors.
For updates to shared table files, you can choose to go to the FTP server of a website such as SOPAC to download them one by one. For program updates, you can also delete the old version of the software and reinstall the latest version. However, GAMIT/GLOBK provides a more time-saving and labor-saving method, that is, using the install_updates script.
On the mit ftp Server (chandler.mit.edu), a package (incremental_updates.[yymmdd).tar.gz) used to update GAMIT/globksoftware is provided, where yymmdd indicates the update date. The latest version number (now 10.5) is provided) software updates to all shared table files and programs since release. Download this file and place it in the installation directory of your GAMIT/GLOBK software. Run the "cd" command to enter the Directory and run the install_updates script:
Chmod + x install_updates
./Install_updates
The software automatically installs updates to your GAMIT/GLOBK.
