I think everyone should know about the disk partition management software developed by Norton? It allows you to adjust disk partitions, repartition, adjust partition size, merge partitions, and convert disk partition formats without affecting data in windows. You must be aware that the partitionmagic partition software is used in Windows. Improper Operations may cause partition loss and data loss. Therefore, we need to treat it with caution. We need to be skillful and correct in operating skills. Don't take it fresh. Try it and use it with a playful attitude. Otherwise, the data is lost and the disk is lost, so it is too late.

After Symantec acquired powerquest, partitionmagic 8.05 is now available in a new name! Powerquest partitionmagic is an excellent hard disk partition management tool. This tool allows you to repartition, format, copy, move, hide, reproduce, boot the system from any partition, and convert the hard disk without losing existing data. partition (such as fat <--> FAT32) structure attributes. Powerful, it can be said that it is currently the most outstanding tool in this regard.
Chinese version description:
1. This is a Simplified Chinese version. You do not need to install the original software. It can be used in 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP. It is a shared guide program, automatically identifies your operating system, but cannot be used in the server version.
2. This is a full version. It can be used without entering the registration code, and it is indefinite. After the installation is complete, the registration information is automatically written into the dialog box. If not, double-click the pm805.reg file in the Chinese package to import the registry.
3. This Chinese patch does not include any other tool software in partitionmagic, nor the localization of powerquest bootmagic.
4. The original software is used for the English version of the operating system. The version you use is based on the English version of the operating system. The Chinese version is only the interface and cannot change the program kernel. Therefore, sometimes the Chinese version is poorly supported, during <convert partition format>, especially NTFS-> FAT32, Chinese characters are not supported. Please use it with caution !! Solution: temporarily change all the volume labels, Chinese directory names, and file names in the partition to English names. In this way, you can convert them correctly and then change them back to the original Chinese name. Other functions have no impact on the Chinese system.
5. Hard drive operations are highly risky. I hope you will not try it easily. In most cases, this software can help you recover damaged partition tables.

Splits a part of space from a partition and creates a new partition.

1. Select the drive letter to be operated. Here we select drive C. Right-click and select adjust/move partition (or select adjust/move partition in the taskbar on the left ).

2. The following window is activated.

The new capacity unit is MB. Set the partition capacity (after free space). The new capacity here is the size of the original partition minus the size of the partition you want.

3. Click "OK" and click "Apply" in the main window. Indicates whether to apply changes. Select Yes.

4. Activate the following warning window and select OK. The computer restarts automatically.

5. The following figure is displayed during the restart process. Here the partitionmagic scan disk program is displayed. After the scan is completed, the rebooting... Please manually reboot the computer is displayed. Then you can manually press the restart key.

6. After running partitionmagic, a new row will appear in the hard disk partition details. The type is unallocated.

7. Right-click the row and select create (t ). This will activate the following window.

Because drive C is the primary partition, we select logical partition as the created partition, that is, the default partition. You can select as needed.
Partition type: fat FAT32 NTFS Linux and other formats are available here. You can select FAT32 as needed.
Volume label: You can set the name of the disk partition as you like, such as a local hard disk.
Size: The default value is all unallocated capacity, which can be selected based on actual needs. Here I set it to 5000 MB, because I want to separate a partition.
Cluster size: default.
Drive letter: default.
Unpartitioned percentage: If you want to divide all unallocated space into one partition, select 100% for the percentage here. I want to separate two zones here. If the capacity of each zone is the same, 50% is used and 50 is input.

After setting, click OK.

8. There are already two more partitions in the main window, and click Apply.

9. The application change window is displayed. Click Yes.

10. The partition is being created. Click OK after the partition is created. In this process, you do not need to restart your computer. Open my computer and check that there are more partitions you just created.

Note: Here is the method for dividing new partitions. Data in the original disk is not affected. This means that the data on the drive C is not affected or damaged, which is also a major feature of partitionmagic.

From a disk to another disk (note that the two disks must be adjacent)

The two disks must be adjacent to each other. For example, if you use C, D, E, F, or more partitions, you must use C to D, D to E, and E to F.

I want to divide the space of drive C into drive D here. First, I need to divide some space from this partition. This step has been described in detail. Click "adjust capacity/partition" on disk C, and set the partition capacity in the pop-up "adjust capacity/move partition" window. The allocated space is the unallocated space.

1. Select the unallocated space and select "re-allocate free space" in the left-side navigation pane ".

2. Activate the following window and click Next.

3. You will see the space of the partition to be re-partitioned, and select the partition affected by the re-partitioning in free space. You only need to select the partition you want to divide. Here is the disk D. Then, cancel the check of other partitions and click Next.

4. confirm that the change point is complete.

5. Click Apply in the main window to activate the application change window. Click Yes.

6. After completing the operation, check the size of the d disk. There is more space allocated from the C disk. This operation does not affect data on disks C and D, which is also a major feature of partitionmagic.

Create a new partition

Select "Create a New partition" in a task in the task bar on the left"

This will activate the following window

Next, click "create location". The "before" and "after" marked on the image indicates the location of the new partition. Generally, after selecting the "f" disk (recommended ), in this way, you can split a G disk partition. Next step

Here, we need to select which partition to divide the space for the new partition. Of course, it is a disk with a lot of space available (disk C can also be used). Here, there is the most space available for disk F, I select drive C (only for demonstration purposes), and can choose based on the size and demand of the remaining disk space. Next step

Select the partition size as needed
Set the scale according to your favorite settings
We recommend that you create a logical partition.
The file system format can be FAT32, NTFS, and so on.
Drive letter, drive letter, choose according to your own needs, I here is the default.
Click Next

Click Finish.

Click "application" in the main window, and click "yes" in the application Change Prompt. Restart is required.

Here we show the partitionmagic scan disk program. After scanning, the system displays rebooting... Please manually reboot the computer. Simply press the restart key on the chassis.

Merge partitions (adjacent partitions are required)

For example, if disk C is merged to disk D, disk D is merged to disk E, disk e is merged to disk F, and disk F is merged to disk E or disk g (except it can be merged to any adjacent partition ), the G disk is merged into the f disk. This is basically the case.

Now, we use the combination of drive F and drive E as an example. Select drive E and right-click it to merge.

In this case, the following window is activated, and the correct merge option is selected to merge drive F to drive E. Therefore, F should be selected as a folder E:, and then enter the folder name below, click OK.

Click "application" in the main window, and click "yes" in the application Change Prompt. You must restart the application during the restart process.

Here we show the partitionmagic scan disk program. After scanning, the system displays rebooting... Please manually reboot the computer. Simply press the restart key on the chassis.
This merger will not affect the data on disk E and disk F, which is a major feature of partitionmagic.

Partition Conversion

You can convert the format of a partition. Next we will convert the partition format of the E disk from FAT32 to NTFS (of course, you can also convert it from NTFS to FAT32) as an example.

Select the Elastic Block Storage, and right-click it to convert it.

In this case, the following window is activated. We select to convert to NTFS and click OK.

The following message indicates that some files may be corrupted and the file name will become ????

Ask if we want to convert to NTFS. Select Yes.

The conversion process is as follows:

This operation does not affect data loss, but may damage the file. Remember to use this operation.

Delete Partition

Select the partition you want to delete. In this example, select the Elastic Block Storage (Elastic Block Storage), right-click it, and choose delete. The following window is activated.

Delete, delete, and safely delete data.
Here we choose to delete and then confirm.

Click Apply in the main window. This operation takes effect without restarting the computer.

Restore partitions

After deleting a partition, you only need to select unallocated space and right-click it to restore the deleted partition.
In the displayed window, select the partition to be restored, click OK, and then click Apply in the main window. You do not need to restart the computer.
In this way, the deleted partitions are restored and the deleted and lost data is recovered. This is another feature of partitionmagic.

Hide and restore hidden partitions

Take hiding an edisk as an example. Right-click an edisk in the main window and choose "advanced"> "Hide partition". The following window is activated and click "OK ".

Click Apply in the main window. restart the computer.

Here we show the partitionmagic scan disk program. After scanning, the system displays rebooting... Please manually reboot the computer. Simply press the restart key on the chassis.
Open my computer and find the E drive is hidden

How to restore hidden partitions
Run partitionmagic and you will see that the local disk * status is hidden,

Right-click "advanced" and choose "show partition". In the displayed partition window, the system prompts that the displayed partition may change the drive letter. Choose "OK.

Click Apply in the main window. restart the computer.

Here we show the partitionmagic scan disk program. After scanning, the system displays rebooting... Please manually reboot the computer. Simply press the restart key on the chassis.
When the system is restarted, hidden partitions are displayed again.

Notes

1. Maintain power supply stability
The typical advantage of PM is to partition, merge, and convert the partition format on the hard disk without damaging the hard disk data. These operations will undoubtedly involve a large amount of data to be moved between hard disk partitions, while the transfer station is the physical memory (ROM part) and virtual memory, but the physical memory (ROM part) and virtual memory have a inherent weakness: once the power supply is lost, the stored data will disappear, so the power supply must be stable when running the PM.

To keep the power supply stable, we must start from two aspects. On the one hand, we must keep the power supply stable. The best solution is to prepare an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). On the other hand, pay attention to the "power management" of the system ". The power management feature helps protect hard drives and monitors. However, if you want pm to operate on the hard disk, and the computer operating system does not receive external commands (such as tapping the keyboard or moving the mouse), it enters the sleep or waiting state and closes the hard disk, hard Disk data may be lost.

The solution to prevent unnecessary troubles caused by system "Power Management" is to switch from "Control Panel" to "Power Management ", in "Power Management Properties", set "power usage plan" to "always on ", set "system wait", "Disable monitor", and "Disable hard disk" to "never ".

Ii. Exercise caution when converting the format of the hard disk partition system

You can use PM to conveniently and quickly convert the formats of several file systems. However, note the following before conversion:

1. the FAT partition can be used for DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95/98. The FAT32 partition can be used for Windows 95 osr2, Windows 98, and Windows nt5.0. The NTFS partition is dedicated to the Windows NT series; HPFs is used by the os2 system. High-level operating systems are often compatible with low-level partition system formats, while low-level operating systems cannot use high-level partition system formats.

2. Most programs will not be affected by the conversion from fat16 to FAT32 (or NTFS), but FAT32 (or NTFS) the format is not well supported for software dependent on the pure fat16 format (such as the disk utility pctools 9.0 and Norton 95. To use the software, you need to switch FAT32 back to fat16 format or upgrade the utility to the latest version or download patches that make the software compatible with FAT32 (or NTFS.

3. Due to the limitations of the fat16 file system, the maximum partition capacity of a fat16 format is 2473.2 MB. When FAT32 is converted to fat for a partition larger than 2 GB, the drive letter may be chaotic and the partition cannot be read. Use pm to view the error message of stack overflow. Run fdisk to delete the wrong logical partition and recreate the logical partition.

4. The partition capacity to be converted to FAT32 cannot be less than 256 M. If you convert a FAT32 partition to the fat format, you must ensure that there is at least-m free space. Otherwise, hard disk data may be lost.

5. The file system format allows specific space and files on the hard disk to be opened to specific users. Other users are restricted by access or read/write permissions. However, once converted to fat16 or FAT32, all space and files on the hard disk will be open to all users, and the special file attributes set for some files in nfts will also disappear.

3. Be careful when merging partitions

PM can combine two adjacent partitions with the same system format on a hard disk into one. This function is very useful for free space in both partitions, and for a partition with a large free space.

Merging partitions takes a long time. If the two partitions are large and there is a large amount of data in the partitions, the merge operation may take several hours, and the progress is quite slow. Sometimes it will give people the illusion of a "crash.

You must be patient when using pm to merge two partitions. During the operation, it is absolutely not allowed to shut down or restart the computer or power-off because you cannot wait or mistakenly think it is "dead. Once such a thing happens, when you enter the computer, you will find that the two partitions to be merged are labeled as "pqflex" and the partition is displayed as "pqrp" File System Format (in fact, it is not a file system format, it is an unstable file format state generated after the PM is interrupted), or the partition and its data are lost, and even cannot enter the computer at all.

4. Do not let the "Automation" of PM hurt the "core" of the hard disk"

It should be said that using pm to operate the hard disk is quite simple. You only need to enter the PM interface. Just like an animated simulation, you can perform the operations you want to change the hard disk. PM will record your operations one by one, then let PM change the hard disk to the desired state. This may be the highly intelligent automation that PM maker powerquest is proud to be proud. Specifically, this "Dummies" Automated dummies simply passively accept the operator's instructions instead of performing disk operations after Intelligent Analysis. For example, if you have a 40 Gb hard disk, it is divided into two partitions: C and D, each of which is 20 GB. In the PM, the partition C is given to the 1 GB space in the D area, and then 2 GB space is allocated from the D area into the C area (the result is that C is 21 GB, and D is 19 GB ). This process allows the PM to execute, instead of intelligently performing concise operations after the analysis, directly separating 1 GB of space from Zone D into Zone C, instead, the above operations are executed in a dumb manner: first, the C area is divided into 1 GB in Area D, and then 2 GB space is allocated from Area D to Area C. This makes the hard disk meaningless for a long time, and the data is moved between different regions.

In order not to "do nothing" or "hurt" your hard disk, do not rely too much on the automation of PM, and fully plan the desired final hard disk status results before the operation, remove unnecessary operating procedures. Use the most concise steps to achieve the results. Once there is unnecessary repetition in the operation, it is best to undo the previous command and start again.

5. Be cautious about the compatibility between PM and other application software.

PM can coexist with most applications. However, some tool software, such as anti-virus software and disk tools, is not so friendly.

1. Anti-Virus Software
Most of the operations of PM involve changes to hard disk data and partition tables. These changes are often regarded by anti-virus software as signals of potential virus attacks on computer systems and these operations are stopped, conflicts between applications.
Before using pm, it is best to use anti-virus software to thoroughly scan the hard disk and the disk that may be used to kill viruses. If you are sure that no virus exists, disable the anti-virus software function and run PM.

2. Norton disk doctor (NDD)
NDD is a powerful disk tool that can diagnose and fix various disk problems. If you use PM to change the partition space size improperly, the NDD error will be prompted.
If the NDD detects an extended partition located at the root of the disk, it prompts "an extended partition has invalid parameters and may not be usable ...". In this case, disable NDD and use PM to increase the capacity of the logical partition appropriately so that a certain amount of available space is left at the end of the partition.
In addition, after the PM deletes, moves, or scales the partition, The NDD may think that you accidentally deleted a partition and will kindly remind you whether to restore the partition. Of course, you cannot choose to recover. Enable the NDD to re-Identify the partition, and there will be no annoying "select to recover" prompt in the future.

3. disk compression utility
It is expected that the PM will be safe with the disk compression programs such as drivespace. The more reliable approach is to increase the free space reserved by the compressed partitions.
In addition, it is important to note that when there is important data on the hard disk, it is best not to use pqmagic, otherwise it may cause losses, even if you really want to use it, please be sure to back up the work beforehand. In case of any problem, please do not panic, let alone re-partitioning and formatting will cause irreparable losses. Please look for a master who is familiar with the hard drive tool to help you see if it can be solved, if the data on the hard disk is really important, you can find a dedicated data recovery company to solve the problem. Generally, there is hope to retrieve the data.
Data stored on hard disks must use certain file system formats, including fat16, FAT32, NTFS, and HPFs. The higher-level format can create up to several hundred megabytes of additional hard disk space on the drive than the lower-level one, so as to store data more efficiently. In addition, it can speed up program loading and reduce the system resources used
