Office comes with a number of shapes that you can use in Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word. If you want to use a shape that is not included in the default shape library, you can group and group shapes to create custom shapes for your document.

Notes PowerPoint 2013 also includes custom shape features, offering more options and flexibility. The procedures in this article apply to Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word, and you do not need PowerPoint custom shape functionality.

Group shapes to create new shapes

A quick way to create a custom shape is to group the shapes from the default library. Here is a simple example that shows you how to do this.

On the Insert tab, in the illustrations Group, click Shapes to open the default shape library. In this example, we will select an ellipse . Hold down SHIFT while drawing the ellipse to make it a circle. If you want to add any effects, under drawing Tools , on the Format tab, use the shape Styles Group to add any effects, such as bevel and gradient coloring.

Add other shapes using insert > illustration > shapes – for example, we use the pentagram in this example.

Determine the position of the added shape to create the desired design. If you want, you can add formatting to the shapes you add. Repeat this step for any other shapes that you want to add.

To keep the shapes as you expect them to be, combine them into a single picture. Hold down the Shift key and click each shape, right-click, and then click Groups > groups . You can then add effects such as reflection, or copy and paste the picture to any other part of the document.

Note Some of the effects added after grouping may change the appearance of the design. Under drawing Tools , on the Format tab, hover the mouse pointer over an effect on the shape Styles Group to preview how your shape will look when it uses the effect.

Change a shape by using the edit point

You can also use edit point to change the shape to a new form.

Click the shape you want to change, and then under Drawing Tools, on the Format tab, click Insert Shape > Edit Shape > Edit point.

Drag the black edit point to change the shape. Use edit point to change the curvature of the line between two black edit points.

Tip You may find it easier to use an edit point when a shape does not have a fill or style applied to it. When you are finished using the edit point, add any fills, styles, or other effects.

Use custom shapes repeatedly

When you finish customizing shapes, you can copy and paste them into any Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, or Word document.

You can also use PowerPoint or Publisher to save your custom shapes as pictures. When you save as a picture, you cannot edit or change the shape, but you can add an effect to its background. If you created a shape in another Office program creation, copy and paste it into PowerPoint or Publisher. PPT background picture www.1ppt.com/beijing/

in PowerPoint and Publisher , click Insert > image > picture on my PC , locate the picture, and then click Insert ”。
