1. Install "Remote Desktop" on the computer"

Use Windows®The Remote Desktop feature in XP Professional allows remote control of your computer from other offices, home, or on the go. In this way, you can use data, applications, and network resources on your office computer outside the office.

To use remote desktop, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Install Windows XP Professional on an office computer or on a computer that is scheduled to perform remote operations. We call this computerHost.
  • A remote computer that runs Windows 95 or later. We call this computerCustomer. It must be installed with the "Remote Desktop Connection" client software.
  • Internet connection. Although broadband Internet connections can improve performance, it is not necessary because "Remote Desktop" only transmits a small amount of data, such as display data and keyboard data, to remotely control the host. Therefore, even low-bandwidth Internet connections can be used to remotely control office computers.

This document assumes that your office computer is part of the company network that allows Remote Desktop Connection. If you are not sure, contact the system administrator.

You must first enable the Remote Desktop function on the office computer to remotely control it from other computers. You must log on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to enable the Remote Desktop feature on a Windows XP Professional-based computer.

Set the office computer to use Remote Desktop"

3. Install the client program for Remote Desktop Communication

Remote Desktop Connection Client software allows computers running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000 to remotely control Windows XP Professional computers. The client software can be obtained from the installation CD of Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition. This client software is installed by default on computers running Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition.

Install the Remote Desktop Connection software on the client

  1. Insert Windows xp cd into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. When the welcome page is displayed, clickExecute other tasksAnd then clickSet Remote Desktop Connection, As shown below.
  3. After the installation wizard is started, follow the instructions on the screen.

4. Start a remote desktop session

After enabling Windows XP Professional to allow remote connection, you can start a remote desktop session if the client software has been installed on a Windows-based client. First, you must establish a virtual private network connection or remote access service connection between the client and the office network or host.

Create a new Remote Desktop Connection

  1. OpenRemote Desktop Connection. ClickStart, PointingProgramOrAll programs, PointingAttachment, PointingCommunicationAnd then clickRemote Desktop Connection.)
  2. InComputer, Type the name of the computer that runs Windows XP Professional, enables remote desktop, and has Remote Desktop permissions for it.

Open saved connection

  1. In Windows Resource Manager, open"My Documents" \ "Remote Desktop"Folder.
  2. Click the. Rdp file that represents the connection to be opened.

Note:The "Remote Desktop" file (. rdp) contains all information about a remote computer connection, includingOption. You can customize multiple. rdp files, including files connecting to the same computer with different settings. For example, you can save and connect in full screen mode.MyComputerYou can also save another file that connects to the same computer with a screen size of 800x600. By default, the. rdp file is saved in"My Documents" \ "Remote Desktop"Folder. To edit the. rdp file and change its connection settings, right-click the file and clickEdit.

Logout and end session
