Use the built-in functions of XP for "emergency" wireless Internet sharing

I believe that most home users will have both Laptops and Desktops, and desktop computers are generally directly connected to ADSL devices and can surf the Internet through ADSL dialing. In this case, if a laptop needs to surf the Internet, it usually needs to connect the ADSL device directly with it. Obviously, only one ADSL device is needed, at a certain point in time, we can only allow one of the computers to access the Internet.

Is there any way to make the laptop and desktop computers surfing the internet at the same time and access the shared resources on each computer? I believe many people will think that this problem is actually a good solution. As long as an additional wireless router is added to support both wireless and wired Internet access, the two computers can access the Internet at the same time.

Although it is good, it is not worth buying a wireless router to allow both the laptop and desktop computers to access the Internet at the same time.

In fact, we can use the built-in Bridge Function of Windows XP to achieve "emergency" Internet access for two computers.

Preparations for "emergency" Internet sharing

The so-called Windows XP built-in bridge function is actually equivalent to a common switch with only two ports. With this function, we can easily connect two computers in different subnets together, achieve mutual access and Internet sharing between the two computers.

Before using this function for "emergency" Internet sharing, we need to ensure that a wireless network card has been configured for the laptop, in this case, we only need to purchase an additional wireless network card to install it on a common desktop computer, and then set the appropriate network parameters, enables point-to-point communication between Laptops and Desktops through wireless NICs.

Then we will add the wireless network connection of the desktop computer and the wireless network connection of the laptop to the bridge at the same time, in this way, we connect the wireless network of the notebook with the wired network of the desktop computer. In this way, the laptop not only can access the shared resources of the desktop computer, you can also use the ADSL dial-up on a desktop computer for wireless Internet access.

"Emergency" shared Internet Devices

To achieve the "emergency" Internet sharing purpose, we need to follow the steps below to connect the laptop and the desktop computer together:

First, purchase a wireless network card device that supports the IEEE802.11b communication standard. Currently, almost all wireless network cards can support this standard, in addition, it can support peer-to-peer network connection between the NIC device and the NIC device. Install the purchased wireless Nic device in the home desktop computer in the correct way, once the wireless network card device is installed, click "start", "set", and "Control Panel" commands, and then in the displayed system control panel window, double-click the "Network Connection" icon to open the network connection List window of the local computer system, A wireless network connection icon appears in the "LAN or high-speed Internet" settings in this window.

Next, install the management control program that comes with the wireless network card device in the local desktop computer. Once this management control program is installed, we will be able to use this program to set wireless Internet access parameters in a targeted manner in the future.

Although different models of wireless network card devices have different parameter configuration interfaces, the specific wireless parameter settings are similar, it usually includes several parameter items, such as SSID name setting, network working mode setting, transmission channel and transmission rate. Because our wireless communication here does not use dedicated signal access devices, it is only used to implement peer-to-peer communication between two wireless network card devices, so when setting the wireless network card parameters, you must set all the SSID names and transmission channels to the SSID names and transmission channels in your laptop. At the same time, you need to set the network working mode in pairs and other network working modes, then, set the transmission rate parameter to automatic mode.

According to the same setting method, we also need to set the working mode of the wireless network card installed in the laptop to the same network working mode, and set the transmission rate parameter to the automatic mode. Generally, after completing the preceding wireless network settings, we only need to use the automatic search function in the wireless network card management program to easily find the "figure" of the other computer.

After configuring the wireless network connection parameters, we need to add the wired and wireless network connections of the desktop computer to the bridge at the same time, in this way, two different physical network segments can be connected to each other to achieve shared communication. When creating a network bridge, right-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop of the desktop system and execute the "attribute" command from the shortcut menu, open the network connection List window of the computer system, and select the "local connection" icon and "wireless network connection" icon in the window, right-click the selected icons, as shown in.

Run the "add to bridge" command in the shortcut menu. Then, Windows XP automatically creates a network connection bridge, at the same time, the "local connection" icon and "wireless network connection" icon displayed in "LAN or high-speed Internet" settings are displayed in "Network Bridge" settings.

"Emergency" shared Internet Configuration

Next we need to set appropriate Internet parameters for the NIC devices of the desktop and laptop respectively to ensure that the laptop can communicate with the desktop through the wireless Nic, and shared Internet access through the Network Bridge. Considering that ADSL devices are usually connected to a desktop computer, while ADSL devices usually have a static IP address built into the factory, in order to allow both the laptop and desktop computers to share the Internet through ADSL, we must set an IP address that is in the same network segment as the default IP address of the ADSL device to ensure that the ADSL device, laptop, and desktop computer are in the same communication subnet.

When assigning IP addresses to Laptops and Desktops, we first need to check the operation manual of the ADSL device to see what the default IP address is. Suppose the address is 192.168.1.1, follow these steps to set the Internet access parameters for a laptop or desktop:

First, double-click the "Network Neighbor" icon on the desktop of the desktop, and execute the "properties" command from the shortcut menu to open the network connection List window of the local system, right-click the Network Bridge icon, and right-click the "properties" command in the menu to open the Network Bridge Property setting window, as shown in.

In the "adapter" settings in the settings window, select the "wireless network connection" project and select the "Internet protocol TCP/IP" option under the project, click "properties" to open the TCP/IP property settings window, as shown in.

Select the "use the following IP Address" option in the settings window, enter "192.168.1.3" in the "ip address" text box, and set the network mask to "255.255.255.0 ", at the same time, set the gateway address to the IP address of the ADSL device, that is, set it to "192.168.1.1 ", finally, you need to set the IP address of the DNS server to the IP address of the DNS server provided by the ISP where the ADSL device is located. After the settings are complete, click OK to complete the network parameter setting operation.

In the same way, we also need to set the IP address of the laptop to "192.168.1.4", set the network mask to "255.255.255.0", and set the gateway address to "192.168.1.1 ", set the DNS server address to the DNS address provided by the local ISP when installing the ADSL device.

After completing all the above settings tasks, we can move our laptop to any location in the limited space of our home to achieve wireless Internet sharing. However, due to the signal strength of the wireless network card device, when the distance between a laptop and a desktop computer is relatively long, the internet signal received by the laptop is often relatively weak, therefore, the Internet access speed may be slower. Generally, when the distance between a laptop and a desktop computer is relatively close, the speed of the laptop to access the Internet can reach 80 kb/s, which can cope with common text information browsing and other requirements.

Considering that ADSL Internet sharing through wireless channels needs to be connected to a desktop computer at the same time, and the speed of Internet access is not very satisfactory, this Internet sharing method can only be used as a temporary "emergency! Although this "emergency" shared Internet access method is restricted by the speed factor, no additional hardware or software is required for this Internet access method, and the setting operation is also very simple, this can still be used as an emergency for users who often need to allow their Laptops and Desktops to communicate with each other and share the Internet!
