In Red Hat Enterprise LinuxRHEL), you will find that the Network Manager is like a default solution for managing network connections. Its function is almost the same as system-configuration-network, but it has a graphical display. After a Red Hat Enterprise Linux installation, the system obtains the network configuration from the DHCP server on a connected network device, but additional configuration is usually required.

On the graphic desktop, you will find the Network Manager icon in the system tray in the upper right corner of the desktop. Click the left mouse button to manage available networks for your environment. You can connect to a wireless network or establish or disconnect from a wired network. You can also use it to connect to a VPN, a hidden wireless network, or create a new wired network connection.

Left-click the Network Manager icon to view available networks.

For network connection management, right-click the Network Manager icon. This opens a menu that allows you to enable or disable wireless and wired networks, display connection information, and modify existing connections. If you are not sure which network you are using, the "connection information" option will open a window showing the current network settings. You can verify the existing network configurations.

Select the connection information to view your current network configuration

To change your network configuration, you can use the modify connection function, which is displayed after you right-click the network management icon. Open the network connection window, which displays all available options on the five labels. For the server environment, the wired label displays all detected NICs. Then you can select the desired connection and click Modify to enter the relevant settings.

Once you modify the NIC menu, make sure that you select "auto connect ). Wired labels display useful properties, such as MAC addresses and the maximum transmission unit MTU ). If you want to maximize your network performance and increase the default package size, the latter is very important. For example, if your server needs to send huge frames through the selected Nic, you can set the MTU size to 9000 bits. However, you can only do this when configuring your converter.

If your converter supports it, You can greatly improve network performance by changing the MTU settings of the NIC.

By default, the NIC is configured to use DHCP, but it is best for the server to use the specified IP address. To set these parameters, select IPv4 and make sure that the "Mode" is set to manual. Click Add to define the required IP address configuration, and click Application to write the configuration to your server.

Manually set the IP address of the NIC.

When managing Linux servers, it is also important to know where to configure storage. The network configuration is also written to a configuration file:/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, and a similar configuration file exists for all NICs configured on the server. If you open the file, you can see the settings configured in this tip through the graphical interface. You can also directly enter the file to modify advanced settings, such as NIC binding. These other parameters cannot be changed using the network manager.
