On Linux, use the IEEE1394DV camera as the Network Camera-Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. The following is a detailed description. I have been using a Sony DV camera for several years. Now I want to use it as a Network Camera. In most cases, DV cameras are at/dev/video0 by default, so this explains, why are online photography opportunities in/dev/video1. Then this is exactly what I need. You may want to make it in/dev/video1 so that some programs such as Cheese can be used by Adobe Flash players to use your DV camera, however, these are beyond the scope of this tutorial.

Assume that you have installed the camorama package. If not, you can obtain it from here. The new kernel is also required. Ubuntu can be directly installed:

Sudo apt-get install camorama

Step 1: Download

In the beginning, we will need other software vloopback and dv4l (svn checkout svn: // svn.berlios.de/dv4l/trunk ).

Step 2: vloopback

Decompress vloopback, And then./configure & make install-now we need modprobe videodev & modprobe vloopback

Step 4: dv4l

./Configure & make install

Step 4: Test

Start a terminal and run dv4l. You will get a message telling you "use/dev/video1 in your webcam application". Now, in the terminal, start running camorama? Device/dev/video1

That's it. Now you have an available DV Network Camera. You can also use this method to make full use of TV. You can simply start your TV-device/dev/video1. With vloopback, you can do some clever things. Read the instruction. I promise that it won't kill you. You can learn one or two more tricks.

Note: If you get an error about raw1394. You need to change the raw1394 permission under the/dev/directory so that you have the appropriate permissions.
