I don't know if you have such an experience: I suddenly think of some things in my previous articles. I only remember a few words and want to find the original article or reference them. To solve this problem, do we need to find an article? No, we use the search function. The search function can help us to add the text content of a file to our search range. In this way, when we search for these two words that we suddenly think of, the original text will jump out immediately.
There are currently many ways to implement such advanced search functions: the indexing and search functions provided by windows7 (which should be available in other versions) and Google Desktop [1]. Other documents, such as paperport, can be indexed to PDF files. However, they are not highly integrated with the system, so they are not recommended here. However, paperport is a famous software. If you are interested, you can learn about its other functions. The following describes the indexing and search functions inherited by Windows 7 and the Google Desktop Search product.
I. Index and search functions of Windows 7.
Win7 provides a ubiquitous search box in the upper right corner of the resource manager. the Start menu is medium. The search function used by win7 is closely integrated with the indexing function of win7. Win7's index tool automatically extracts content from all text files in the specified index folder. This extraction process uses a tool called ifilter. Different formats of files have different ifilter, such as Doc ifilter and PDF ifilter. After extraction, a database is formed, and then Windows searches the database for what we need. How to use indexes and search for Windows 7 is not described in detail here, because it has been clearly written by others, please refer to the citation [2, 3].
The following describes ifilter. According to the news, win7 has adopted Foxit's ifilter tool Foxit PDF ifilter as its PDF extract [4], but apparently this Foxit PDF ifilter is not the latest version 2.1. Foxit PDF ifilter 2.1 has been released and is free for individual users. Why not use it?
First, download the tool from the official Foxit website [5. Then install the installation package using the conventional installation method. In this way, we will see in the index options on the control panel that the PDF extraction has become Foxit PDF ifilter, for example:
Make sure that "index attributes and file content" are selected in the red box below ". The last step is to re-create the index. After the index is complete, you can use the search normally.
2. Google Desktop Search.
Download and install Google desktop, and then you can use it directly. The shortcut for calling out the search box is "win key + F ". I don't think Google's built-in PDF Extraction Tool is very useful, mainly because it cannot extract the contents of many Chinese PDF files. You can use the ifiltershopgdsplugin plug-in to enable Google Desktop to use the Windows Extraction Machine (ifilter ). I will not talk about the rest.
In addition, we also need to talk about the keyword search issue. I tested several keywords and found that they are also used. For example, I can search "ry feature corner" to find the article I need, but if I enter "What feature corner", I cannot find any article. For example, you can find an article using "pixel as an angle", but the article cannot be found using "pixel as an angle. Therefore, the word (Chinese) in the search keyword must be the entire word, not half a word. This is probably the way Microsoft constructs a database-indexing words. In addition, we can use a single word as a keyword for search.
The last thing is that the indexing system will index the domains (titles, topics, keywords (Meta), and body content) of the PDF file? I am not sure yet. But the only difference is that it will certainly index the file name and body. After modifying the file content, will the index system reindex the file? Further research is required.
