Classification and distribution of Word templates

The templates in Word are grouped into two categories: System wizards and templates, and the second category is user-defined templates. The system wizards and templates for Word are installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\templates\2052 folder by default, with the Extension Wiz (wizard) and dot (template).

The location where user-defined templates are stored is different from the version of Windows: For Windows 2000/NT/XP users, custom templates are placed in C:\Documents and settings\administrator\ Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder; If you use Windows 9x/me, the template is placed in C:\Windows\Application data\microsoft\ Templates folder.

Use an existing template

Office XP itself has a lot of beautiful templates in it, as long as you select File → new, the New File Window task pane appears on the right side of the word window, and the template selection window pops up by clicking the Common templates item under new from template. Here all the templates have been sorted and placed, there are several types of wizards or templates for common use, Web pages, reports, memos, publications, other files, letters and Faxes, English Wizard templates, and you can click the appropriate label to open, which will have the appropriate template file name and template description information, and can be previewed. Select the template you want, and then click OK to open a new file that has been applied to the template. Some templates may also open a wizard window that requires you to set up and set some parameters.

Installing external templates

The template is stored in the form of a file. So, if you find some Word templates on the Web or on a CD, just copy them to the C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder ( Windows 2000/XP User) or C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates folder (Windows 9x/me user).

Delete unnecessary templates

If you don't need too many templates, or if you think you have too many templates installed, open "Explorer", go to the user-defined Templates folder, and then delete the appropriate template files.

Use other people's documents as templates

If you see a file that's pretty and you can open it in Word, then select file → Save As, and then in the Save As dialog box, select File template in the saved as type Drop-down box, and then enter a filename and save it to the default template folder. In the future, just select "File" → "new", you can see the template in the "general" template tags just made, double-click to use their own customized templates. By using this method, you can quickly convert doc files to Word templates.

Quick Transform Template

If you have doc files on hand, just copy them to the user-defined Templates folder and select "File" → "new", and you can use our files in the "General" template tab. By this method, there is no need to pass the "save" method to convert. You can also change the file extension to dot directly and copy it to the custom template folder.

Modification and modification of existing templates

Office XP itself comes with a large variety of file templates, but some may not be as satisfactory when they are used. At this point, you can modify the existing file template to make it more in line with your requirements. Select file → new, and then click the Generic template item under new from template to eject the Templates Selection window. Select a category, such as "letters and Faxes," and then select elegant letters, then fill in the appropriate location with the company name, title, name, and so on, and then click File → Save As, select File template in the Save as type dropdown box of the Save As dialog box, and save it under the template folder by default. Later use, as long as you choose "File" → "new", you can in the "General" template label to see the template just made, double-click can be used to modify the template after their own.

Customizing the default page size

If you are not satisfied with the default page size for word XP, start Word, select file → page setup, set your own values for the page size and up and down margins, and then click the Paper tab, where you can define the width and height of the page. Finally press the "Default" button at the bottom of the window, and a window to modify the default template appears, pressing the Yes button. When you restart Word, the new file is automatically indented and the page is a lot narrower, which means that the settings you just made are in effect.
