Using function calculations in Word

Now, we're going to calculate the total number of males and females, so put the insertion bar in the cell below the total number.

Then, perform the menu action in the following illustration: "table" → "formula".

In the diagram above, enter the formula directly:

=sum (A2,B2)

Finally, click on the "OK" button, the results are out.

The above formula can also be modified to: =sum (A2:B2), where A2:B2 indicates that the range to be computed is from the first column of the second row to the second column.
