now Microsoft has no support Windows XP , so it is necessary to XP Upgrade to Windows 7 up. In general, upgrading from Windows XP to Windows will face the following issues:
1. Data loss: the risk of losing data is always there, whether it's an end-user upgrade or an it administrator to do the job.
2. the terminal is not available for long periods of time: When upgrading with tools such as Microsoft's SCCM , the terminal can be very long in an unusable state, which is intolerable to many users.
3. Application Deployment: applications running on Windows XP cannot be migrated directly to Windows 7.
4. migrating to Virtual machines: Today is the era of cloud, and many companies are migrating from physical machines to virtual machines.
VMware Mirage in addition to providing layered image management, it provides XP to the Windows7 migration, and has the following benefits :
1. 0 Data loss: There is no data loss problem because Mirage has previously put all the data on the server.
2. minimized terminal unavailability time: In general, during the entire migration process, the terminal is only unavailable at the time of the last reboot. The restart takes less than five minutes.
3. Application Deployment:Mirage uses the application layer to publish the required applications to the terminal during the migration process.
4. migrating to Virtual machines: for Mirage , virtual machines are also physical machines, and migration from physical machines to virtual machines is straightforward.
This article includes the following sections :
a . Pre-migration preparatory work
two . process of migration
three . issues that you may encounter in migration have been resolved
a. preparatory work
The following preparations need to be made before migrating:
1. import USMT
Detailed steps: importing USMT in the Mirage Management Console .
2. Crawl the application layer
before you can crawl the application layer, you need to prepare a clean Windows 7 system as a terminal. Install the Mirage Client on top and connect to the Mirage Server. Note that you should not centrally manage this terminal to keep it in a suspended state. Next you can grab the application layer on the Mirage Management Console .
3. Crawl the base layer
If you haveMirageEnvironment is4.xor a previous version, in a crawl forWindows 7configuration work is required before migrating the underlying layer. That is, when you create aReference CVDof theReferencemachine, right-click on the right side of the taskbarMirageclient icon, select tool> Windows 7 Image Setup. When you are finished, go fromThe Mirage Management console captures the base layer . If the wizard gives a warning thatWindows 7 Image Setup, you can refresh it.
after completing the above three steps, you can formally start XP Migrating to Windows 7 up.
two. Migration Process
There are two kinds of migration methods, one is local migration, that is, on the original hardware device, directlyXPMigrating toWindows 7. The user needs to select the base tier during this migration process, and the application tier can also be selected. In this case, the originalXPsystem underC:\Windowsthe contents of the directory will be saved toC:\Windows.oldunder this directory, user data is migrated to the newWindows 7under the corresponding directory in the system. The user will be asked to restart after the migration, and reboot directly into the newWindows7system, the system has been installed in the migration process selected application Layer application. Detailed steps: Local migration of XP to Windows 7 .
Another kind of migration is the relocation, that is, the originalXPmigration of user data to anotherWindows 7the terminal. For this kind of migration, you need to implement a ready-to-installMirageclient but not centrally managedWindows 7terminals, virtual machines and physical machines are all available. Throughout the migration process, the originalXPThe system is completely unaffected. The new one needs to be restarted after the migration is over.Windows 7terminal. After the restart, the new one.Windows 7the terminal hasXPuser data for the system. For detailed steps, please refer to Offsite migration of XP to Windows 7 .
three. issues you may encounter in migration and how to resolve them
problem 1 : migration does not start after you end the Local Migration Wizard
Analysis: The probable cause is the original XP The terminal does not have enough space to store the underlying layer and application layer data downloaded during the migration process. In this case, the terminal will have the following hint:

You can also find the reason in the log of the terminal. Log file location:C:\ProgramFiles\Wanova\Mirage service\logs. Check the tray Log for information such as the following:

Check Desktop_major There is no information as shown in the log:

Workaround: Cancel this upgrade, expand the capacity of the terminal system disk is re-upgrade.
problem 2 : the new Windows 7 System network Connection failed
after a local migration restart, the new Windows 7 the system's network connection failed, as shown in:
650) this.width=650; "src=" Http://s3.51cto.com/wyfs02/M02/3F/81/wKioL1PKDZmAiRpmAABqHDPaSgw388.jpg "title=" Disconnect.png "alt=" Wkiol1pkdzmairpmaabqhdpasgw388.jpg "/>
Analysis: This problem may occur when a virtual machine is XP Migrating to Windows7 in the process. Because the XP Virtual machine's network adapter is not the same as the Windows7 , the original network adapter becomes unusable after the reboot.
Workaround:
1. shut down the terminal machine.
2. Remove the original network adapter from the machine, and then add a piece E1000 The new network adapter.
3. start the terminal machine.
