Using tools to view Index.dat files

Use Notepad to view the Index.dat file, will display a lot of garbled. To view the full Index.dat content, you can use the tool software to complete it. The Index.dat Suite is a good choice.

After you start the software, select the disk partition that contains the temporary folder in the Search in option, click the Find button behind search for, and later see a lot of Index.dat files and their folders. The larger the Index.dat file, the more information it contains.

Select a larger Index.dat file, then right-click, select View file contents → Using internal viewer command, and then click OK when the dialog box appears, and the Index.dat file will be opened. Carefully look at the contents of the file, you can find previously browsed URLs, pictures, videos, etc. are recorded here, right click on a URL select the "Open URL" command to start the browser to open the Web page. If the file is found by other people, privacy is at a glance.
