Varchar length settings in mysql

Source: Internet
Author: User
Mysql sets the varchar length in UTF-8 encoding format. if a field is set to varchar (10), can it only store five Chinese characters?
If the form receives 10 Chinese characters, will the system take the first five Chinese characters and save them all? Or error?

Test result: the field in utf8 is varchar (10) and contains 10 Chinese characters. the excess part is truncated and only the first 10 characters are left.

The number of characters and number of characters are not a concept.
Varchar (10) is worth 10 characters

Varchar (10)
It can contain 10 characters, including Chinese characters.
