Verify that any computer that uses TCP/IP as the network protocol has a route table. When a network packet is transmitted from a computer using TCP/IP to another computer using TCP/IP, the route is determined by the route table of the computer that sends the network packet. After the computer is restarted, the route table of the computer is automatically regenerated. You or your network administrator can add permanent (static) items to your computer's routing table. These permanent items are automatically inserted into the route table every time the route table of the computer is regenerated. To view the ROUTE table of a computer, run the ROUTE command. To do this, type route print at the command prompt. You will receive a response similar to the following: Active Routes: network Address Netmask Gateway Address Interface Metric 255.0.0.0.0 255.10.1.1.3 1 10.1.0.0 255.0.0 10.1.1.3 10.1.1.3 1 10.1.1.3 255.255.255.255.1 255.10.1.1.3 10.1.1.3 1 255.255.255.0.0.0 255.1 255.255.10.1.1.3 10.1.1.3 1 255.255.255.255.255.10.1. 10.1.1.3 1.
