Relational databases represent data as a simple two-dimensional model, that is, records represented as rows and columns for storage and processing. Relational databases were generated earlier, but they are only suitable for the storage and processing of simple data and have many limitations. Although relational databases are simple, easy to understand, and widely used, with the development of the Internet, the use of a variety of complex data, this simple two-dimensional relational database is obviously difficult to cope with various complex applications. As a result, more database experts began to study post-relational databases.

The post-Relational Database Service uses a unique multi-dimensional data structure, which not only reflects and better describes the complex data in the real world and its relationships, it also enables faster data access.

RDS provides three methods to access data: Object Access, SQL access, and direct access to multi-dimensional data arrays. In addition, the three access methods can concurrently access the same data.

Multi-dimensional data structures and multiple database access methods form the foundation of post-relational databases.

Ccaré released

It has been more than 20 years since the introduction of the Post-relational database model. With the development of the post-relational database technology, the post-relational database products are no longer stuck in the basic stage of the model. Recently, Cach, released by InterSystems, is a post-relational database management system for high-performance transaction applications. It has many object-oriented functions and a transaction-type multidimensional data model.

Cchiné applications can be migrated from one platform to another without modifying the code lines and run on different hardware platforms and software platforms, such as Windows 95, Windows NT, Unix, and DigitalVMS.

In addition, because ccaré is easy to use, it can greatly reduce the manual intervention workload that is usually required when other technologies are used, significantly reducing the cost related to system management.

Cach's features

On the one hand, cchiné is a large-scale, scalable, and high-performance database with Web technology that enables rapid development and operation of complex databases and network application software, provide necessary conditions.

On the other hand, Cach is a very open system that can be compatible with many modern development tools and technologies. When developers need to build a quick application, Cach can provide them with a familiar programming and development environment.

Cchiné is a distinctive multi-dimensional database product that provides three data access methods: object, SQL, and multi-dimensional array, and its system response time can be less than 1 second. In addition, Cach has made great breakthroughs in establishing large-scale scalable B/S-structured Web applications and C/S-structured database application software technologies.

Cchiné is based on the M technical standards of both ANSI and ISO standards and has a unique data storage method. Cchiné not only provides high-performance multidimensional database management systems, but also includes application servers, object-oriented development platforms and tools for Web applications.

Cach's advantages

Compared with the post-relational database technology, high response performance is one of its major advantages. Data in the network environment is usually very complex, but in the previous relational database model, data development is limited by a simple row and column data model.

This complexity has to be passed on to the application design, so that the application must perform a lot of data table operations and perform many table connections to process a transaction. As Transaction Processing on a relational database is a huge task, the application system of the relational database becomes inefficient.

Comparatively speaking, the object-oriented multi-dimensional data structure of Cach can better describe the relationship between data. It can also save hard disk storage space and provide high-speed response performance.

The storage space after the adoption of Cach may be reduced by 2/3, while the applications based on Cach may run 20 times faster than those originally based on relational databases.

Openness is the key to Cach's ability to develop quickly. Developers can work in familiar environments and use tools they are familiar. Developers who are used to relational systems can design data models as tables and then use embedded SQL to access them.

Cchiné includes an advanced and mature complete object model, including encapsulation, polymorphism, multi-inheritance, result set and blob, and can interface with object modeling tools such as rose software. More importantly, cach's three data access methods can directly interact with data in cach. In this way, there is no additional layer of processing to improve the performance of the database. Cchiné also provides transaction-processed Bitmap indexes that greatly improve the query efficiency of real-time data in data warehouses. It can use multi-dimensional data institutions to execute Bitmap indexes to increase the query speed and significantly reduce the storage space occupied. The high performance and fast development efficiency of cchiné can bring huge benefits to computer users. In addition, cchiné can easily manage database systems with the support of various operating systems, including online real-time reallocation and deployment of database servers and application servers. After that, relational databases can combine Multidimensional Processing and object-oriented technology into relational databases to combine the speed and adjustment of the processed multidimensional data model. Due to its unique compatibility, post-relational databases are ideal for developing high-performance exchange processing applications.

Development History of relational databases

Before 1970s, the database system did not have a complete and robust mathematical theory foundation. database products were designed directly based on actual application requirements. Database products in this period are mainly hierarchical database systems. The industry referred the products of this period to the pre-relational database period.

In 1970, Codd, a researcher at IBM, published an article entitled "Data Relationship Models for large databases. Since then, the development of database systems has entered the "relational database system" period. The relational database system is based on relational algebra. After decades of development and practical application, the technology is becoming more and more mature and improved. Its representative products include Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft's ms SQL Server, Informix, ADABASD, and so on.

The emergence of the Internet and XML language have opened up a new world for the development of database systems. At the end of 1990s, German Software AG announced the world's first Native XML Database System (Tamino) product, the database system has entered a new development period.

Post-relational database, people started to get involved as early as the late 1970s S, but was not explicitly referred to as "Post-relational database ". A person named P. Chen proposed the object-relational data model in 1976. Because mesh databases, hierarchical databases, and relational databases coexist at that time, P. the Database concept proposed by Chen only hopes to unify the databases of the traditional three models to the object-relational data model. Post-relational databases are only used as a conceptual model.
