Detailed description of vCenter Log in VMware KB 1021804

Http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do? Cmd = displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 1021804 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogID = 276970976 & stateId = 1 0 276976346

Among them, vpxd-xx.log is the main Log of VC, located in C: \ ProgramData \ VMware \ VMwareVirtualCenter \ Logs (win2008)

There are some other logs, vpxd-alert-X.log and vpxd-profiler-X.log.

There are two ways to view the VCLOG.

The first is to view

The vSphere Client connected to vCenter Server 4.0 and higher: Click Home & gt; Administration & gt; System Logs.

The Virtual Infrastructure Client connected to VirtualCenter Server 2.5: Click Administration & gt; System Logs.

After entering, you can select the LOG type you want to view or export Logs

You can also search logs for keywords.

The second method is to directly view the LOG file on the OS where the VC is located.

There are many Logs in the path C: \ ProgramData \ VMware \ VMwareVirtualCenter \ Logs.

The text document for the vpxd-6 is the latest LOG file. Token file. And create a text file for the vpxd-7.

Open the vpxd-6 and we can see the same Log as on the vClient.

The LOG file location of the ESX host is as follows:

The location of the LOG file of the ESiX host is as follows:

Note that the logs of the ESXi host are lost after the host is restarted or shut down. Therefore, we need to use vMA to collect logs. (My other logs will involve this point, so stay tuned)

Iii. UseVClinet,SSH,DCUI,WEBTo view and searchLogFile

1. Use vSphere Client to view logs of ESX and ESXi hosts

After the vSphere Client directly connects to the host, the HOME-System Logs is enough.

The interface is the same as that of the VC.

Here is the ESXi host. You can view the following Log:

2. You can also use SSH to view host logs.

, You can see many log folders in the/var/Log directory.

For more information about each Log, see KB 2004201.

3. You can also view logs on the DCUI interface of ESXi.

Select View System Logs and press the number key corresponding to the LOG on the right to View the corresponding Log

You can use the Q and H function keys to exit and seek help.

4. You can also view logs on the WEB interface.

Access https: // esx03/host and enter the root and password of the host.

You can either open it directly or right-click it and save it as a local LOG for analysis. This is quite convenient.
