On October 15, lunar January, The Royal Pingdom published a signed article entitled "The 9 most important events in Open Source History", pointing out nine most important historical facts (sorted by age) as follows:

1. 1980 -- Usenet appears;

2. 1983-GNU plan proposal;

3. 1989--20.bsd released;

4. 1991 -- the first release of Linux;

5. 1993-Red Hat was established;

6. 1994 -- start MySQL database development;

7. 1996 -- establish Apache server;

8. 1998 -- open source code of Netscape;

9. 2004-Ubuntu was officially released.

The dispute is likely to occur in the last decade. We have to ask whether the most important thing (Event) in the global free/open source community is the release of Ubuntu during the decade? If not, what else is more important than the release of Ubuntu? From another perspective, is there anything that can be compared with the release of GNU/Linux in the last century?
