1. Click Install in the virtual machine settings

In VMware Workstation, right-click on the virtual machine console and click "Install VMware Tools", where the CD that loads VMware tools has been connected to the virtual machine, mounted, unzipped, and then executed for script installation.

2. Mount the VMware Tools image in the virtual machine

Console, execute df -h , find not mounted.

To create a mount point:mkdir -p /mnt/cdrom

To mount manually:mount -o loop /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

Execute again df -h and discover that the device is mounted

3. Unzip the installation

Into the Mount directory, unzip:cd /mnt/cdrom && tar -zxvf VMwareTools-10.2.0-7259539.tar.gz -C /tmp/

View installation files: vi INSTLL or install ./vmware-install.pl -d directly by default

When you install VMware Tools, you need a Perl environment installed on your system. Perform a rpm -qa | grep perl check to see if the system is installing a Perl environment.

This blog uses minimal installation, certainly not installed Perl environment. So in the note, "Virtual machine console Infrastructure deployment-Configure Yum source. md", Perl is installed from a local source. In general, after executing the yum-y install VIM, you can directly perform the above command to install vmware-install.pl-d. Because of its dependent environment, when installing VIM, it has been installed.

The default installation above will install VMware tools in the system FHS file system standard. The user who has no requirement for the system environment can adopt this method, which is simple and convenient.

4. Configure the shared directory

In the virtual machine console settings, right-click. In virtual machine settings, select options, then select Shared Folders, select Always Enable, select Add, then Next, select the path to the host, and the name of the share, and finally click Finish and OK.
In the console, by executing df -h , viewing the Mount information:./host://mnt/hgfs, the shared file configuration is successful.
Configuring shared files can bring a lot of convenience:

• Ability to process all configuration file backups in practice to prevent data loss after virtual machine failure or deletion
• Faster file transfer with host, avoid using other protocols to transfer files, or Occupy console file system

shared files can be configured as shared by multiple configurations, including host directories, or mobile devices.
Of course, there are many kinds of direct data sharing between host and virtual machine, which is just one of them, it is also a kind of VMware tools function.

In this blog, the host "download" directory, and D-disk to prevent the sharing of files shared directory to console.

Note: After you enable the shared file system, you can uninstall/mnt/cdrom. The system image is then found in the pc-d-myfiles and is mounted in loop mode. Any other ISO files in the host can be mounted to the console using/mnt/hgfs shared files, without the use of VMware Workstation CDROM mounts.

5. About VMware Tools

VMware Tools, in addition to the above can share the directory, but also to synchronize the host and virtual machine time, make the virtual machine full screen display, etc., very useful functions. If the virtual machine installed is not CentOS, but WIN7/10 and other windons systems, you can also share physical devices.
