Use host-only in VMWARE to enable Redhat linux-guest to access the Internet and start the samba service.
The following describes how to install vmware and vmware-tools.
1. In windows, select the NIC connected to the Internet, and select "properties"> "advanced"> "Internet Connection Sharing"> "allow other network users to pass .. -> Choose VMnet1 for the home network connection.-> OK.
2. Configure static IP addresses in linux
Click Little Red Hat-> System Settings-> Network to Open Network Configuration
Double-click the following Profile to open the dialog box and fill in the static IP Address
Address: 192.168.0.21 (the last digit can be written randomly except 1)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Click OK.
Select DNS and enter Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Select hosts to view your host name and IP address. You need to modify the following
Save
3. Edit host address
Create a terminal and write vi/etc/hosts to open the hosts file
Change the ip Address in front of the host to the ip Address. (Usually in the first line)
4. Restart the network service
Service network restart
5. You should be able to access the Internet.
6. Configure samba
Vi/etc/samba/smb. conf open the configuration file
Find hosts allow or Add hosts allow = 192.168.0 to the file (do not forget the last point)
Add a shared folder at the end of the file. The following is an example. (The file shows how to add shared folders)
[Root]
Comment = all for windows
Path =/root
Guest OK = yes
Writeable = yes
[Data]
Comment = data
Path =/data
Guest OK = yes
Writeable = yes
Save and exit
7. Restart the samba Service
Service smb restart
8. In windows, you can access the shared folder set above.
Start> RUN> enter \ 192.168.0.21
Access your shared folder
9. You can use a remote tool, such as putty.exe, to log on to linux using ip address 192.168.0.21 in windows.
In this way, you can use command lines in windows to work in linux, instead of switching to vmware.
10. If the preceding settings are correct, use the following command in linux.
Ifconfig: Check whether eth0 has an ip Address: 192.168.0.21.
If not
Ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.21
Service smb restart
Service network restart
