Here are the methods and steps for installing Debian6 with VirtualBox

Create a new folder to hold virtual hard disks, such as Debian

L Open VirtualBox, click New

L Enter the virtual machine name, Debian_6

L Allocate memory to virtual machine, set to 1G

Choose not to add a virtual hard disk, click Create, and click Continue.

Next we can manually add a few pieces of virtual hard disk

Select the virtual machine debian_6 that you just created, and then click Save on the right , as shown in

L Click Add Virtual hard disk

• Click to create a new virtual hard disk

L Use the default settings and click Next

L Use the default settings and click Next

L set the name and size of the virtual hard disk

Set the storage location of the virtual hard disk

L Set the location to the folder you just created . Under Debian, click Save.

L Click Create

L Follow the above method, then create another piece of virtual hard disk HOME.VDI, here just to illustrate the problem, so create two pieces, the second virtual hard disk name is set to: Home, size is set to 40GB, also placed in the path just below d:/debian/.

According to the above method, the virtual hard disk named boot defaults to SDA, and the name of the virtual hard disk named Home is SDB. If you want to change, you can do this:

Select Boot.vdi, click on the SATA Port drop-down list on the right, you can see the BOOT.VDI SATA port is the 0,HOME.VDI SATA port is 1, here you can set the BOOT.VDI SATA port to 1, the HOME.VDI SATA port set to 0, so that their order is Changed, so that Home.vdi became SDA,BOOT.VDI became SDB.

Here we choose the default can be, as follows

L Select the path where the Debian6 disc image is located, as shown in

L Click OK

L Select the virtual machine debian_6 you just created, click the Start button

• Select the second graphical install, which will be installed using the graphical interface, then hit enter

L suggest using English, then click Continue

L Select Hong Kong, then click Continue

L Use the default settings, and then click Continue

L Here can set the DNS server IP, here can not fill, and so on after all installed , you can configure the network, and then click Continue

L Click Continue

L Click Continue

L Set the login password of the root user

L Add a new user Pengdl

L Click Continue

L Set Login password for user pengdl

L Select Manual Partitioning and click Continue

L listed below are the two virtual hard disks Boot.vdi and HOME.VDI that we created just now, if you want to go back to the interface, you can first select the guided partitioning in, and then click Continue.

Start the partition below

L Select the first virtual hard disk and click Continue

L Select Yes and click Continue

L For example, click Continue

L Select Create a new partition, then click Continue

L If you have the following partitions:

/30GB

Swap 2.2GB

/Home 42.9GB

Select Primary partition and click Continue

L Click Continue

L Set the file system used by the partition, we use the Ext4 file system. Click used as and then click Continue

L Select the Ext4 file system and then click Continue

L Select the setting up the partition option, and then click Continue

    • Select the remaining 2.2GB and divide it all into the swap partition. Click Continue

Select Create a new partition

Using the default 2.2GB, click Continue

Select Logical Partition

Select Use as, set to swap

Select done setting up the Patition, click Continue.

Here is the rest of the virtual hard disk as the home partition

Select Yes and click Continue

Use the default value, give all 42.9GB to home, click Continue

Select logical partition and click Continue

Using the EXT4 file System

As you can see, mount point is already set to/home, if not, you can choose the mount point option and click Continue. Here the mount points are set correctly, select the done setting up the partition option, and then click Continue.

All of the following have been partitioned, so that the purpose of this is that after a partition is broken, the other partitions will not be affected. For example, BOOT.VDI damage, will not affect the data in the HOME.VDI partition (we can do some of the project source under the Home section, you can add a few more virtual hard disk, to/usr,/tmp and/var each separate piece of virtual hard disk) , and so we can simulate how to reuse the data in HOME.VDI if the BOOT.VDI is damaged.

Select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk and click Continue.

Select Yes and click Continue

Start the installation automatically below

Here we choose SSH Server so that we can access the Debian virtual machine via SECURECRT.

Login to the virtual machine with PENGDL, open terminal, enter Df–h

Suppose, for some reason, a virtual hard disk in the virtual machine is damaged. Here to see if the original data is still there, we can build a file under the home section and write something like this:

/HOME/PENGDL/PENGDONGLIN/PENG.C, here's Peng.c's content.

Suppose the original boot.vdi is damaged, but the HOME.VDI is still intact. We created a new virtual hard disk named Debian_recovery , a new VM named Boot.vdi, and the other virtual hard disk was HOME.VDI with the same virtual hard disk that was just not damaged.

Add the home partition, using the HOME.VDI virtual hard disk of the corrupted virtual machine.

Select the EXT4 file System

, choose No,keep exiting data, that is, keep the original, not formatted, if you click Continue at this point, it will be formatted to format the partition, and then click Continue to change back to not format the partition.

Select the mount point option and then click Continue to set the mount points to/home

Partition the newly created virtual hard disk according to the actual needs, and it is partitioned according to the partitioning method Boot.vdi in the previous virtual machine , as shown in:

Select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk, and then click Continue.

As you can see, the original data is still intact.
