The basic components within the vsphere suite are ESXi, vcenter Server, vsphere client, and vsphere Web client.

Vcenter is one of the core management members of the Vsphere Suite, responsible for the management of ESXi hosts and plays an important role throughout vsphere.

The environment I use here is: two ESXi hosts (install esxi5.1.0). One ad contains DNS (Win Server 2008, Domain: baby.com), one vcenter (Win Server 2008 installation vcenter5.5.0. An iSCSI storage is installed at the same time), topology maps such as the following:

1. ESXi Installation

ESXi needs to be installed directly on the physical host (Dell OptiPlex 380 and Dell OptiPlex 3010), I am burning with a USB flash drive, and the installation is easy. and installing Windows systems is actually the same. The IP and access address of the current system will be displayed directly on the display after the installation is complete. Access the ESXi address directly from the client browser.
Precautions:
1, when the installation of the machine must have at least one card, and plug in the network cable.
2. It is best to set the IP address to static after the installation is complete.

2. Installation of vsphere Client

After the ESXi installation is complete, you need to use the client software to connect, such as creating a resource pool, joining a virtual machine, and so on. Here you can use the access page of the ESXi host installed in the previous step of the browser to download the vsphere client software (included in ESXi) to local and install it from the page.
The vsphere client can be used to connect to ESXi hosts individually, as well as to the vcenter host to manage all ESXi hosts in a single unified management, although using vcenter to manage ESXi hosts is more powerful. Here we first connect to a separate ESXi host to see the effect.

3. Installation of Vcenter Server

Vcenter installation is recommended to use a domain environment, of course, can not apply to the domain, using the current host IP as a unique indicator. I am using a domain user (baby.com) to install, you must first add the current host to the domain, and then use the domain user to log on to the system and then install. Then the installation is also very easy. The next step is just the last.
Once installed, you can use vsphere client to connect to Vcenter and start the client. and enter the vcenter IP or domain name, username, and password login.

After logging in, you can create new data centers, join ESXi hosts for management, add storage, create new resource pools, and virtual machines.

Precautions:
1. It is recommended to install Vcenter Server in the environment of the domain.

4. Use vsphere Web client to access vcenter

Starting with vsphere 5.1, the official has already recommended the use of vsphere Web client instead of vsphere client. All new features added from vsphere5.1 can only be used by the Web client. The vsphere client only provides functionality before 5.1.
Of course, the vcenter 5.5.0 installation has been installed and started by default for vcenter Web server. It is generally 9443port of vcenter. For example, my Vcenter Web server access address is https://vcenter.baby.com:9443/vsphere-client .

Precautions:
1. When visiting the virtual machine console from the Web client. You need to install the remote console plugin as prompted. Turn off the IE security level.

2, if vcenter is not installed in the domain environment. You need to add the host file of the client side of the Web server to the mapping of the IP to the vcenter host name, or you will be prompted for a connection timeout when visiting the virtual machine console.
3, it is best to set the browser to Compatibility View access.
