VMware Horizon Flex Installation and Configuration

On the last book we introduced EUC star VMware Horizon FLEX, and you should have a clear idea of what FLEX is and which scenarios to apply.

The question that comes up is, is flex installation and configuration complex? As an administrator, we don't want to manage to install a complex and confusing software. Don't worry, this blog will show you the basic configuration and installation process of FLEX1.7. This blog does not involve the combination of Mirage and flex features, and will continue to be introduced in later blogs.

VMware Horizon Flex Components List

Flex Software is composed mainly of the following parts.

It looks very simple, the basic process is:

• Flex administrator makes base image and uploads to file server

• The administrator logs on to the Flex policy server and sets the user and policy for the mirror

• Flex End User Login to Fusion (Workstation Player) and connect to the policy server, download the basic image file to local

• End user opens downloaded virtual machine for work with fusion (Workstation player)

Installation of the VMware Horizon Flex Policy Server

The FLEX1.7 policy server is built on top of the VMware Mirage5.6, so installing the Flex policy Server is actually installing the Mirage server. The relevant knowledge of Mirage is mentioned in the previous blog, please refer to:

1. Prepare the encryption certificate and do not use it in the test environment

1. Installing SQL Server

The first step is to install SQL Server and ensure that you have the appropriate permissions to create the Flex database. The specific SQL Server version is:

• Microsoft SQL Server 64-bit R2 Express, Standard or Enterprise edition

• Microsoft SQL Server 64-bit SP1 Express, Standard or Enterprise edition

• Microsoft SQL Server 64-bit Express, Standard or Enterprise edition

Installing the Flex server

• Preparing the operating system and joining the domain

The Mirage server component needs to be installed on Windows Server R2, Windows Server 2012 or an updated operating system

Install the iis7.0+ on a different operating system installation dotnet3.5.1 and dotnet4.5.1 or a newer version and be compatible with IIS6 install Mirage5.6 Management Server ( mirage.management.server.x64.111180 or later version) Cluster Storage folder is a cache file that is best used for fast storage in production environments such as SSDs. • Confirm that the connection was successful by right-clicking on VMware Mirage and selectingConnect to Server on localhost. If you do not already have a serial number entered, you will be asked to enter the serial number in this step.

Before installing the Mirage Web, you need to install IIS7.0 on the current operating system.

Install the Mirage Web Management component (Mirage. webmanagement.x64.111180) Create a file directory to download the flex image

The administrator creates different base images for different users and installs different applications in those mirrors. These base images are stored in a folder in the. tar file format and can be accessed and downloaded by the Flex policy server.

• Create a download folder

The folder can be either local or remote.

Create a virtual directory of IIS for the user to set permissions to access the folder

After the virtual directory is created, the user can download the flex image via the web.

• Open the IIS Manager interface and browse "VMware Mirage Management Web Site"

• Right-click on "RVM" and pop-up menu, select "Add Virtual Directory"

• Set the previously created storage folder as a virtual directory

Sign in to flex policy server

Then we can login to the Flex policy server via our browser. After entering the user name password, the browser pops up the page to enter the Flex's serial number.

Create a flex base image

We need to create a base image of the corresponding FLEX1.7 with the VMware Fusion 8.1 or workstation Pro 12来 with a flex serial number. Only with the Flex serial number can you create a mirror of the managed policy with fusion or workstation.

The current example is the base image created with fusion, and the workstation operation is similar.

2. Create and install a basic virtual machine

   This process is no different from the normal process of creating a virtual machine.

4. Shut down after installing VMware tools.

8. Select "Enable Encryption" and enter the password. Be sure to remember the password and use it when you log on to the virtual machine.

10. Select "Enable Restrictions" and enter the password. Similarly, don't forget the password, don't say I didn't remind you yo.

12. Click on the "Configure ..." button. Select "Managed" in the "Restriction Type" drop-down list. Fill out your Flex policy server as "Restrictions Management server" and check if you can connect.

    After the connection is successful, obtain the server's certificate and click the "Save" button.

14. Export the virtual machine as a. tar file.

    Click "Export to TAR ..." and select Folder

16. Upload or copy the file to a mirrored folder in the Flex policy server.

18. Register the base image to the flex server.

    1. Locate the virtual machine image package (. VMWAREVM)

    2. Enter Flex's access address on your Web browser: HTTPS://SERVERNAME:7443/RVM and log in

    3. Select "Image" and click "New" to enter the image information

    4. Enter related information on the "New Image" page
