VMware vSphere4.0 VCenter upgrade

1. Stop key services in VCenter4.0
A. VMware Update Manager Service
B. VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices
C. VMware VirtualCenter Service
 
2. Import VCenter4.1 iso to VCenter4.0 server.
Procedure
2.1 Insert VMware vCenter Server Installation
2.2 Click Browse media. Click Browse media. Click Browse media. Click Browse media.
2.3 open the datamigration folder and decompress the dat archive to the local writable file system on the vCenter Server Source computer.
2.4 change from a Windows command prompt to the datamigration folder, type a folder, and then type backup. bat to run the backup script of the data migration tool.

2.6 If VMware vCenter Update is not installed, enter y when prompted to continue the backup.
VCenter Server configuration data and SQL Server Express database (if applicable) are copied to the \ datamigration folder in the decompressed folder. The vCenter Server database instance is upgraded to vCenterServer 4.1 compatible with the database instance.

2.7 check the logs \ backup. log in the datamigrat folder for errors.

3. migrate the database to the target server:
Copy datamigrat to the new vc server and restore the new vCenter4.1 (64) on the target machine to configure the bound database.
VMware recommends that the target computer and source use the same master name.
Procedure
1. Copy the datamigration folder from the source computer to the target computer.

2. Insert the vCenter Server Installation medium to the DVDROM drive on the new computer, or copy the installation ISO image to the new computer.
3. From the Windows command prompt, change to the datamigration folder copied from the source computer, and then type install. bat.
 
4. If the name of the new computer is different from that of the source computer, enter y to continue the operation.

 
5. Enter the path of the vCenter Server installation media.
For example, if the installation media is in CDROM, enter E :\
The installation script verifies whether the migration data exists and starts the vCenter Server Installation program.
 
6. Select a language for the installer and click OK.
 
7. When the "welcome" screen is displayed, click Next.
8. Select "I agree to the terms of the license agreement" and click "Next.
9. Select to install the SQL Server 2005 instance (for small-scale deployment) and click Next.

10. Enter the password of the vCenter Service user account.
11. Accept the default target folder, or click Change to select another location and next step. The installation path cannot contain commas (,) or periods.
Make sure that you have sufficient space in the C: \ WINDOWS \ Installer folder to install the Windows Installer. msi file. If there is not enough space for the file. The installation of the vCenter Server may fail.

12. Enter the port number or accept display, and click Next. The displayed port number is the port number for installing the backup from the vCenter Server.
13 depending on the number of hosts in the environment, select the amount of vCenter JVM memory in Tomcat to be allocated. If the number of hosts in the environment changes, you can adjust this setting after installation.

14. Click Install. Click Install. Click Install.

15. After the vCenter Server is installed, click. The data migration tool will restore the backup configuration.

 
16. Check the \ logs restore. log file in the datamigration folder and confirm that no error file is found during restoration. VCenter Server vCenter is installed and the Backup Settings are restored. The SQL Server Express database is also restored to a new computer. The vCenter Server starts.
