The vMotion enhancements in VSphere 5.1 increase the ease and flexibility of virtual machine live migration to new levels. Prior to VSphere 5.1, shared storage was required for both vMotion and Storage vMotion to perform live migration of virtual machines. (vMotion requires shared storage to perform vMotion between hosts.) Storage VMotion requires the host to access the source and destination data stores. VSphere 5.1 no longer requires shared storage.

VSphere 5.1 enables a virtual machine to change its data store and host at the same time, even if two hosts do not have any shared shared storage. Not only does it enable virtual machine migrations between multiple clusters within a large data center, which may not have a common set of data stores, but also enables virtual machine migrations in small environments without the need to access expensive shared storage devices.

VSphere 5.1 allows vMotion and Storage vMotion to be combined into one process. This combined migration replicates the virtual machine's memory and its disks to the target host over the network. After all memory and disk data is sent, the target virtual machine is restored and the source virtual machine is shut down.

4. Configure the NIC for vmotion :

1) Login ESXi Click Configure-Network-standard switch-Properties-add Vmkernel port group:

2) Add a port group:

3. Select Vmkernel:

4) Change network label-check for vmotion Port group:

5) Configure the IP address according to the planning automatic configuration:

6) Second ESXi Repeat the above steps configuration.

5. Log in to the Vcenter Web Client for virtual machine migration:

1) Login to vcenter vsphere Web client via Firefox:

2) Select the virtual machine to migrate
