VNC, SSH, and HDMI: three methods to access Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi is a great small computer, but it may take a long time to build it and connect it to the monitor. Fortunately, there are three ways to save time so that you can set up Raspberry Pi and keep it on, or don't have to worry about the HDMI and Ethernet cables after it is started.

Three phases of access to Raspberry Pi

When I first received Raspberry Pi, I began to share it with HDTV using an HDMI cable to display command lines, desktops, and other things (I thought it was a media center ).

Since then, I have bought a new desktop display with an HDMI cable, so I can bring Raspberry Pi closer when necessary.

Next, I will explain how to use the HDMI splitter to display your Raspberry Pi to the desktop you are using. You will also learn how to use SSH to connect to Raspberry Pi and run remote commands. Of course, there are also VNC to access the computer.

Hardware option: an HDMI Splitter

As explained above, if you want to keep Raspberry Pi in the attachment, the HDMI splitter is a good choice. Now suppose you have just burned the SD card and haven't set up the SSH or VNC service.

I bought a distributor for less than $10. There is a button to select three channels, and I connected my main computer and Raspberry Pi's HDMI cable.

Switching between two devices is very simple. You can click a few buttons to display the desktop. More importantly, it is much faster than blindly connecting to the HDMI cable directly. The latter often has some problems.

Connect Raspberry Pi Using SSH

If you just want Raspberry Pi to stay somewhere in the house and don't bother with the HDMI cable, you can use free software such as PuTTY to establish an SSH connection.

I have introduced the article about using SSH to connect Raspberry Pi under the Raspbian release. In fact, no matter which release you are using, the general approach is the same. Once you enable SSH access, you can connect to it through a terminal on Windows, Mac, or Linux.

The advantage of doing so is obvious. It instantly becomes a history for the HDMI cable (I am so miserable, especially when I am blindly playing around the screen. As long as there is a network, you can connect to the home network through SSH and use the command line for configuration.

Indeed, the only reason you need to approach Raspberry Pi might be to start it or connect it to some USB storage.
