First, we will introduce the installation conditions of exsi5.5 HOST: currently, mainstream server CPUs, memory, hard disks, and NICs support esxi5.5 installation. The hardware standards officially recommended by VMware are as follows.

1. Processor

All amd opteron processors support AMD-V Virtualization

All intel xeon3000/3200, 3100/3300, 5100/5300, 5200/5400, 5500/5600, 7100/7300, 7200/7300, 7500, E3, E5 processors support Intel-Vt Technology

 

2. Memory

Server Memory and memory with verification function are supported. The installation of esxi5.5 host requires a minimum of 4 GB memory. If the memory is larger than 8 GB. (Due to my limited memory, esxi5.5 host is installed with 4 GB memory, but after the installation is complete, it can be adjusted to 2 GB and can still run, this is a solution for persons with insufficient memory, so that two servers can save 4 GB of memory)

 

3. Nic

VMware officially recommends NICs of Intel and Broadcom with a GE or above.

 

4. Storage Adapter

Supports SCSI adapters, optical fiber channel adapters, aggregated network adapters, iSCSI adapters, or internal raid controllers for mainstream servers. However, you need to refer to the list of hardware compatibility officially provided by VMware.

 

5. Hard Disk

Esxi5.5 can be installed on mainstream SATA, SAS, and SSD hard drives.

Configure DNS. Because I have a virtual machine for Windows Server 2012 R2 data center, it acts as an Active Directory, database, and DNS, I installed ad and SQL on the same server only when the memory is insufficient. In a real working environment, the two servers must be installed separately. Moreover, Microsoft does not recommend installing ad and SQL together.

To manage the esxi host, you need a client with the vclient installed to manage it.

 

For future lab requirements, we also need to install the second esxi host. The installation process is the same as that of the first host.
