Iv. Building a DOS compilation environment

(1) Start the virtual machine and select "Create a new virtual machine";

(2) Select "Typical", next; "Install the operating system later", next;

(3) Select "Other" in the guest operating system, select "MS-DOS" in the version and the next step;

(4) Select the virtual machine name and installation location, the next step;

(5) Use the default settings, next. Complete

(6) Right-click on the newly created virtual machine and select "Settings".

(7) In "Hardware", click on the CD/DVD, select "Use ISO image file" on the right, click Browse to find the downloaded DOS71SCD extracted folder, there is a DOS installation image, select, click Open, and then OK.

(8) Turn on the virtual machine

(10) Use the default settings all the way "Next" and select "Reboot now" to restart the virtual machine.

(12) Reboot will prompt invalid system disk, which is the issue of BIOS startup settings, press Ctrl+alt+insert Restart the virtual machine, at the beginning of the logo of VMware Press F2 (hold the time, try several times), enter the BIOS settings, Right-click (→) switch to the boot bar, down arrow (↓) to CD-ROM drive (turn white to selected), and then press SHIFT and the plus sign (+) to move it to the top. to the right (→) switch to the exit bar, select "Exit Saving Changes", press two times to enter, save the settings and restart.

(17) Select "Yes" for all

(18) Select "Enable both UMB and EMS"

(25) in the fourth chapter of the book need to use MASM and link to compile the file, DOS itself does not bring the two software, we need to put MASM this folder into DOS. Turn off DOS first, then right-click on the settings, select "Hard Drive", and in the "hard drive utility" on the left, tap "map".

(26) Remove the option "open files in read-only mode" and click OK.
