Bash takes the tilde as a path extension

$echo ~//extension to the full pathname of the current user's home directory
/home/user

$echo ~user//extension to the user's home directory
/home/user

$echo ~+//extension to current working directory
/home/user/doc/working

$echo ~-//extended to previous working directory
/home/user/doc

$echo $OLDPWD//oldpwd variable to save the previous working directory
/home/user/doc

$CD-//-is extended to the previous working directory
