With McAfee all know VSE, and a few people know about MDF, and a few people know about HIP, but for CMA, except for some EPO users, almost no one knows it, or mistakenly thinks it's a EPO management component unrelated to normal desktop users, But the real picture is a strong contrast to our ignorance: although few users know what CMA is, they have CMA installed on their computers, and CMA is indispensable for day-to-day use.

What is CMA? VSE friends may know that there is a "Common Framework" folder under McAfee's installation directory, and many people say this is a common component of McAfee Enterprise Series security software, an understanding that is based on functional analysis. But it is in fact a standalone client program, CMA.

With three of the basics of CMA: 1, DAT files, engines, and product updates for McAfee Enterprise series security software, for example, the McAfee AutoUpdate window that pops up when we manually update VSE and MDF is actually CMA; 2, a scheduler for running tasks at certain times, the McAfee Enterprise series security Software's scheduled tasks are performed by it, and 3 is also used for Epolicy orchestrator Server Management Services. To sum up, without CMA, our VSE and HIP will not be updated, and EPO cannot manage the client.

Since CMA is so important, why don't we even know about CMA before? This is because when we install VSE, in fact, has been installed at the same time CMA, and in the daily use of the process, it is imperceptible to the CMA Automatic Updates, scheduled tasks and other functions as VSE itself one of the functions.

It looks like an unsung hero, so what do we need to know about CMA? The answer is yes. The reasons are as follows:

First, whether you install VSE, or run CMA standalone setup, CMA defaults to English, which is why we see the interface is in English after installing VSE 8.5 manual update. The solution is also very simple, McAfee's official website provides a multi-language package, you can go to download and install yourself.

Second, many friends in the installation of HIP 7.0 when said that the need for "EPO" installation can not, this may be their attempt to install the Server version of the hip on Windows XP, but more likely, they see the hint is not to say that the need for "EPO", but is said to need "McAfee Epolicy orchestrator Agent 3.6 ", this is another name for CMA. HIP 7.0 does not come with CMA, but its installation requires that at least CMA 3.6 be installed on the computer. If you see the above prompts, either you have not installed VSE 8.5, or you are installing the VSE 8.0 with the CMA version low. The solution is, please install VSE 8.5 First, or the officer network to download the stand-alone installation program.

Third, although CMA can be VSE, HIP, etc. to update, but it itself can not upgrade themselves. Currently, the VSE 8.5 self-band CMA 3.6 is not up to date (officially already agent 4.0)

Four, on the uninstall of CMA. Although CMA 3.6 is installed automatically when you install VSE 8.5, CMA will stay on your computer and occupy a service when you uninstall all of McAfee. You cannot find the name of CMA in the Add or Remove Programs list. At this time, you can refer to the following methods to delete: Click the Start menu in turn → run, enter the following command:

"C:Program filesnetwork associatescommon FrameworkFrmInst.exe"/remove=agent

Description, this command means to disable the agent and delete it when it is not in use.

Or:

"C:Program filesnetwork associatescommon FrameworkFrmInst.exe"/forceuninstall

Description, this command means specifying that an existing agent is unloaded and then installing a new agent. The effect on the client is to uninstall CMA.

In addition, CMA has other features, such as its ability to provide a McAfee security agent icon, to set the VSE, MDF, HIP, EPO taskbar icons into a McAfee security agent icon to display and manage, but to implement this , it seems that this will require the cooperation of the EPO.

PS: Note that MDF and HIP can not be installed and used at the same time, in addition to the CMA display will have some problems.
